Wheelie bad...

Sat at a set of lights in Coalbrookdale ... single track bit between 2 x pubs ... astride a TLR1000R

Head of queue = bus
Behind him = car
Behind him = car
Then me

People outside pub having a jolly time

"Hmmmmm" thinks I .... "As soon as the lights change and as soon as that bus so much as moves a wheel -I shall explode past everybody before the narrow bit and look really cool"

Bus wheel moves a micron and **** yes ... huge wheelie. Panic. Shut throttle. Bang, down she slams. Now I'm along side the bus immediately before narrow bit. Loads of throttle= Huge wheelie ... squeeze through gap on one wheel, legs trailing like a gangly bug and with with bus horn blaring and lights flashing ... and was that derisory laughter I could hear through my shame?

Different route home to avoid any lingering drinkers who may have witnessed my farcical attempt at stuntery.

Anyone been on one of those wheelie courses that are advertised on the net that supposedly teach you how to do it properly?

I'm with Sparky on this one .Never did any wheelie's cos im crap & can't afford the repair bills that would come with learning to stunt. Only got the Firestorm on one wheel getting off from the lights cos I needed to beat the M3 to the point where the road became a single lane..I was new to V Twins then scared the crap out of me. Next time on the CB 1300 two up filtered to the front of the lights when they turned green, Opened the throttle Wife's legs hit my armpits as I monocycle onto the other side of the road, she does not ride anymore...Anyway here I am with a Tuono Factory running 16/42 gearing reading this thread . What could possably go wrong? I decide to try to lift the front wheel but this time I am the one in control . So up to 5000 RPM & crack open the throttle in first. OMG Front comes up I panic hit the brake & close the throttle ,front wheel is not in line when it lands I think i need a ohlins steering damper, but after thinking about it , it did feel good, now I can lift the front cos I want to not by accident. I love my T it takes me to places I have never been before & being 50 that means a lot.

Yes I have been snifftering on an Asda's £5 rolled back red.

only bike i ever felt comfy with the front of the ground was my firestorm... loved it to bits.

the T however, i ant got that sense of control .... yet... seems it just wants to kill me.. great aint it :)

Garry why did everybody seem to hate the firestorm ? I loved mine ,it was a really great road bike but like the T very thirsty, was it because it was'nt a 916 beater or not as edgy as a TLS Suzuki ?

never had anything but good to say about the storm, the TL (widowmaker) was a cracker, but its history always left me with doubt, undeservidly i thought, so i didnt have that long. went on to an sp1, but soon found i was toooo owd fer the ead down arse up life, that was the last sports i owned before the T.

i loved my firestorm !
the only bike i ever had for 5 years
but not a patch on my tuono tho :thumbup
i never have had a bike that would weelie so well

Cyprus on hols last week ...

Vast majority of bikes in Larnaca are tricked up Busas, GSXRs and such ... very nice

They do like to pose in the evening and :-

First prize goes to a kid on a KTM Superduke with a near vertical wheelie right along the 1/2 mile front

Second prize goes to a kid on a Busa doing weavy (front brake applied) powerslides all along the front like a rolling burn-out without smoke

Third prize goes to a kid on a scooter popping wheelies like they were going out of fashion

He might have deserved first place ... but it was a scooter ffs!

i used to live in cheddar and in the high street there's a pub ,,, anyhoo 1 night a load of us were out the front having a brew when some chopper type thing pulls up to the junction , we all start shouting ' wheelie mate ' so the guy gives it a masssssive handful and up she goes , and goes and then a bit of a wobble and foooookin bang , straight into the Natwest bank front door , we nearly pissed ourselves , next minute police and ambulance turned up , poor ******* but he was ok ! ****** funny though .

About 25 yrs ago i bought a nearly new Suzuki GP 100 , within 3 hours of ownership i found myself running behind it after flipping it cause i was showing off to me mates , busted rear lights , number plate etc , could wheelie my KTM EXC 450 , but i'm **** at em on the T !
