I am considering buying a Cat D write off RSV-R. :devious
It's a low mileage 2002 bike (52 reg) and comes with 10 months MOT

Anyone have an idea of its' worth?

Cheers

Not a lot less than a non-cat D really, assuming it's been well repaired. Cat D just means un-economic to repair in insurance terms. It's nothing to do with the actual level or type of damage. As vehicles get older they are often declared cat D after an accident because insurance companies base the price of repairs on the cost of new parts (not secondhand).

if there is little in the price difference between a salvage categorised bike and non then I would look for a non as you will have a smaller market willing to buy it later unless its much cheaper than it's non cat sibling!

I must say I've never heard that a Cat x vehicle is around the same value as one thats not! but thats not to say it's not true?! (where x = whatever category it's been written off to). I would suggest 2/3rds the value of non!

did you see how many "not's" I managed to pack into that last sentence !!! :D

Bought a Cat D myself thinking I would just put it on track but am really enjoying it. Damage was virtually all cosmetic apart from a scratch on the frame where the brake pedal bent into it and a small ding on the swing arm from the exhaust.
Have seen a couple of bikes in the past that the owner has quite clearly had an accident on but not claimed on insurance. Suppose to do own repairs cheaper and avoid bike insurance history. Also to possibly keep his no claims - so they're not all squeaky clean even if history checks out and shows no claims on it.
I suppose the main thing is to check any bike thoroughly. But that can be difficult when buying on eBay.
