Guy's can anyone help me out in the size of chain on my 2005 RSVR?

And what sprockets are recommended as an upgrade?

Lastly, what tool do you recommend to split the chain and re-rivet it?

Don't know the size or OEM chain but the upgrade is
15t front & 42t back with 108 chain
try Tash on this site as he is doing a deal at bthe mo
cheers Shane
ps he is doing renthal replacements

As Shazam said 15-42 with a 108 link chain is a good upgrade, we are doing kits for £125 delivered. This is for Renthal 15t front Renthal 42t hard anodised rear with Renthal 108 link gold chain, let me know if this is of interest and we weill sort it out for you.

Cheers

That sounds perfect mate, first time i've ever fitted a chain so I guess it comes open with a rivet ready to be pressed once fitted?

Yep the chain is supplied open ended with a split link, if you haven't got a chain splitting/ riviting tool I can supply one for £50.

If your cheap (like me) I've never had any problems splitting the old chain, by using an angle grinder to get the links rivets off, then using a screwdriver to pull the link off, and seperating the chain that way. Then to fit the new one, a bit of metal on the other side, and a hammer on the new one works fine.

Here's a picture of my hammer rivet, compared to the open link from my Daytona 675 last year.

I managed to change my chain no problems without the proper tool. Just cut it off and then as AngelGrinder did, I used a hammer to do the rivet, worked a treat! I'm on 16/42 at the moment but might try 16/43 soon.

I just think 15/44 would make 1st gear completely useless. Can't see how you could ever keep the front end down, it's bad enough as it is! Would also massively restrict top speed for track use. Though I suppose it depends on which track, I didn't go above about 130 at Rockingham on standard gearing (Novice group, 1st time!). Unless you are horrendously over-geared (I think all RSV owners should change to at least 16t front) then you won't lose out on much.

I'm running 15/45!

Wheelies & 1st gear not a problem.
How often are you going to need +155mph even on a track unless it's got long straights?
I ran 16/45 when I did motorway commuting, I can't imagine using higher than that.

are you gen 2 m8 & how fookin quick does that pick up?

Im a big boy so the Ape (00) needs all the help I can give it. It pulls well in all gears but means I do get to use most of the gear box.
I like it. ]

What am I saying, I fookin love it.:biggrin:thumbup

Really Stu ?

15 front sprocket is oem on the post 04 bikes as the gearing is slightly different.
Depends on what you do riding wise. When i toured low gearing was a pain as motorway speeds were at a really buzzy part of the rev range and mpg was not so good.

If you only ride fairly locally who needs the top speed so go for the acceleration. Especially if you are BIG (code for well rounded) like Stu. :biggrin

Spoonz, 16 is oem on post 04 and 17 pre 04 mate.

Old Spoonz memory is going AWOL, Tash is on the money 17/42 pre 04 and 16/40 post 04.

I have a 15/43 on my factory and think it is spot on for the road, still see over 170 and pulls like a train, track use is usually 15/45/46/47:thumbup
