Oh Legs just said it all there :thumbup three posts in the time it took to write my last one :roll my typing's as slow as my riding :biggrin

Cool, il look into that piston, prob next month tho, all my spare cash is going on new leather at the BMF on saturday.

Yep got the dampner on :) Have not noticed it working yet ( well maybe a little coming out the dartfort toll) but guess thats the point.

I got some M6 bolts and a M5 grub screw lucky we use them at work.

I agree changing the gearing would help but isn't the problem (sorry 'problem' is too strong a word) that the motor is simply not at it's best running < 4k ish as stated in the article posted earlier?

When I changed the front sprocket to 16 teeth I was constantly looking for another gear at first when cruising at motorway speeds - isn't upping the rear gonna make that worse :dunno. I suppose it's down to how you ride - for plodders like me I'd rather a bit more bottom end while the speed merchants are happy revving away :devious.

As for the RSVR brakes being crap I can assure everyone the brakes on a TLS are sh*te - they're practically the first thing any TL owner changes. I'm really impressed with these Brembo's :).

Tantrum what can/chip are you running? the race chips give a good mid range boost especially if you fit a race can too. This might help sort your Problem..

I run 16/44 Renthals.

Best performance mod you can do to a Mille, IMHO. Cheap bolt on increase in "real world" on the road driveability.

Also, it's not a 100% solution, but a free breathing exhaust and one of the many airbox kits or mods available really does make a difference to low/mid range "oomph".

I was surprised when I fitted an Evo airkit. Not only did the intake roar sound brilliant, it felt much more responsive and gutsy at lower revs.

As far as what revs do I pootle about at?.

I honestly couldn't tell you!!!. Been riding this thing for 4 years now, so I pretty much change gear when my ears and instincts tell me to now. Hardly ever look at the rev counter!!!. :thumbup

Aaargh! I knew I shouldn't have said 'problem' :biggrin it's not a big deal just wondered if there was a 'fix' for it :dunno.

When I bought the bike it had the Aprilia Titanium race pipe and chip fitted but took it off to have a small repair and repack done. Still haven't got round to doing it yet. Thinking back maybe it had more low down pull then but not 100% sure. Will refit it soon and find out :).

Will a 44 rear fit if the chains a bit worn or is it new chain time?

Well I've had the mille six months now and I think I've been riding it wrong all that time :confused
I went out today for a blat on my own, normally I change through the gears before the revs got too high, but today I ragged its arse off keeping the revs high in all gears, even the times when not accelerating, and fook me it was like owning a different bike, it felt really responsive and Sooooooooooooo Smoooooooth :doug

What rpm would you experienced mille riders normally ride at various speeds and at what point do you change up when your making progress :dunno ( i don't mean when your really nailing it as i would imagine your going to change up at red light limit) Not sure if i'm explaining this clearly but any help will be welcome :thumbup

Ill talk to you about this when you come down. Getting it right makes all the difference to lots of aspect of riding.

Mine has had the gearing altered and certainly it pulls well from low down, and i'm waiting to see what difference removing the airbox top has to the bike overall. I've got to say in general i'm hoping it may make it breathe better up towards the top end of the range as especially two up it seems to get a little asthmatic when revving out. Could be the fuelling needs a tweak.

I find most of the time when making progress the bike lives around 4000 to 5000 to build from, and when going for it 7500 and above. It seems happy enough to chug along around 3000 around town with no need to slip the clutch mind.

I'd agree the TL motor is a different beast altogether. I had a Bimota SB8R a few years back and without a doubt, that thing would rip from bottom all the way to top. I had a mate with an rsvr at the time, and i'm sure this won't make me popular, but the SB8 had the legs over it every time. Admittedly we are talking a non standard TL motor in the Bimota though! And when the Bimota wasn't shaking itself to pieces!!

Well, by this time next week I rather hope to have some new pics for you all of the changes to the bike and an update as to how the bike is compared to when I first got it.

Great bike though, it has SOUL !!!! :inlove

Well the quote from 'Bike' magazine I posted earlier was from a comparison between a Ducati 996, a TL1000R and an RSV. The TL had the most bhp and torque and pulled happily from 2k. The RSV was fastest though due to weight and aerodynamics. The Duck was the overall winner though :(.

I love my RSV for it's chassis and looks but it might be fun to try one with a TL motor in it :devious.

Tantrum, forgot to say. A mate also had an early model Falco, 2000 from memory, and I can say that it certainly pulled like a rabid dog from low down, but it could be chugged around on. When I say vicious, I do mean vicious though. I think it had had the gearing altered and the sodding thing felt like it was ripping your arms when you were gunning it in the first three gears. Not an ideal set up for wheelies, it was just too vicious and revved out to quickly.

Horses for courses! :)

Hi all,
Just like to add my two-penneth worth, just got sold my TLR & now on an 05 Factory. The Aprilia's miles ahead in braking & suspension feel/feedback, but the TL engine was a cracker, very much a V-twin feel but lots of power high in the rev range. Having said that it was downgeared, mapped & Yoshi's so free breathing. The Factory at the mo is still standard gearing & exhausts, but it truly is on another planet when it comes to the handling. was out on sunday & came over a rise at speed to be confronted with potholes in the road about 1-2 inches deep where bits of the road surface had come away, instinctivley stood on the pegs to take the shock as I would have on the TL, only to glide over as the Ohlins did what suspension should do. On the TL i'd be fired up in the air! Impressive.

im with rsv ecosse, never ever look at the rev counter or speedo unless heading for a gatso, ride through instinct/sound/feeling.
i agree on having to rev its nuts off more than i expected and needing more low to mid oomph, but then mines pretty standard except for the race can.15t
sprocket next on the list, then airbox mod and pc3 topped off with a dyno run to check all is well and fueling is good.
as sprocker said, give it some welly and it just gets better and better.

love my bike more everytime i ride it.got used to the back brake now and never really noticed a problem with the clutch lever either tbh.

had honda vtrs firestorm and sp1 then back on a firestorm then the rsv and must admit the rsv doe's like to run along a little higher at 6000 to 7000 but it doe's pull good from that rev range

it does like it over 4,000 for the power band to 10,000.. but i like to cruise at 3,000 to3,500 in secound and third.... it has a nice deep v twin sound, plus it saves gas... only gearing thing ive found ,, is under 30km/hr it really doesn't like it so u end up holding in the clutch..

would bring the front teeth down one help with the under 30km/hr.

i have a 2005 mille r.....

Chris

You got any pics of slave cylinder fitted? Had my Mille 2 & 1/2 weeks (and 800 miles:doug) and now have a left forearm like Arnie:biggrin:biggrin
