afternoon all

im new to the mille, and i have yet another question!!!
i was looking at the front of my bike today, i'd like to lower the ride height on the front by about an inch!! is this do able? at the minute i have only one ring showing above the yoke?? its a standard mille on standard showa front forks!! so can it be lowered?? will it massively effect the handling or make it unstable etc??

thanks again everyone for always helping

yes it can be lowered,I think most people have 4 rings showing,it will affect the handling ie it will turn in quicker...

I have 4 rings showing above the yoke.
If youre going to start changing your forks settings then i really recommend that you change your fork oil 118 + - 2mm air gap. Then you will get the best out of the changes that you make and the differences in settings will be more noticable.

Thanks for the advise guys, and pat you seem like a handy man to know!! What's the best way to go about lowering the yokes on the forks??

Take the front wheel off and loosen the yoke clamp bolts then push the forks up til the ammount of rings you want are showing.

ive not got a stand to take the front wheel out, does it defo need to come out? and is it both sets of yoke clamp bolts and the clip on's i loosen?? sorry to be a pain just need it to be right!!
No tell a lie, i have got a front paddock stand that goes underneath the fork bottoms, is that ok to use?

you need to take the weight off the front end, loosen the pinch bolts on both yolks, then slide the forks up a little,It can be done without taking the wheel off,but your probably better with it removed,I used a trolly jack and a bit of wood (placed under the engine) to lift the front of the bike off the ground, but I did have an assistant to steady the bike.
don't want it falling over.

easy to do with the wheel in and on the rear stand, just slacken one fork at a time and the other one helps keep the bike suspended, only slacken the bolts till you are able to get a bit of movement in the fork, i use a rubber mallet to hit the top yoke to move it down bit by bit till i get it to the height i want then tighten up the bolts and do the same on the other leg.

I do it this way all the time

sorry to sound stupid badger, but how does it work only releasing one fork at a time?? sorry im confused??
do i not have to gently release both, cause i cant see how one will rise if the wheel spindle is still in etc? really sorry to sound ********!!

The fork on the side that is left tight will move down on the suspension and the side that is loosened will slide up through the yoke instead of moving down on the suspension, err I dont know any better way of putting it. :dowhat

i'll give it a try!! don't know if you all agree, but i think the mille seems to sit quite high at the front end??

yeah suppose it is, just looks "tall" when next to my other bike! bloody great bike though, so glad i purchased it!! i've also got the jet to carry out the jet mod, but where does it live? is there any other mods you all know of that are worth doing?

I'd start with the 14ah battery, then solonoid upgrade to the 150amp one, then the brown connector mod,but theres others I'v forgot about, lol

the battery and solinoid help with the starting and the brown connector can get corroded and melt causing charging problems.

Thanks for the info on here Pat - I've just got a new (to me) '05 RSVR & was gonna be asking the same questions - you've saved me wasting everyone's time - keep the suggestions coming (apologies to OP for the partial hijack of the thread, but I'm sure he'd like to know too...) :thumbup

Iam only repeating what I'v learnt on here, credit goes to others...

Is there a 14Ah battery that fits without any modifications? The YTX14 and YTZ14 batteries are only 11 or 12 Ah depending on manufacturer.
