As soon as i decide upon and purchase a suitable replacement I wil get rid of the Mille
As the title says THATS IT.
Why cant the japs build a modern V-Twin sportsbike?

This isnt a forum rant.
This is the end of the line for me with aprilia, the RSV is going :thumbdown
Im just frustrated at the choice out there for V-twin sportbikes, the japs dont make them anymore :jack
The crossplane R1 is too expensive, dont know what to replace the Mille with.
I dont want annother ape and really dislike Ducati.
So whats left, ZX-10R maybe :dunno

Therein lies the Italian dilemma.

Many an owner never ever has an issue and wonder what you are on about. The other half will cross their fingers everytime they hit the start button because they are constantly let down.

Always been that way and has not changed even with the latest v4's etc. Part of the issue is it's a twin and jap twins are just the same.

They put huge loads on the batt and starting systems of a bike not matter who builds them. I have a distinct memory of my Brothers Honda Varadero not starting after re fueling and the big twin killing the batt fairly quickly. Seat off, jump leads etc (sound familiar), turned out to be the Honda HISS system (more like PISS) which we had to bypass. We reconencted it again later when we got to the hotel and it never went wrong again.

Then the next year my mates Yamaha Tenere ate it's regulator and boiled it's batt, and the replacement we purchased locally. Then blew it's shock seal on a bumpy road the last day of the tour.

Don't get me wrong, the Japs build more reliable, cars/bikes etc in general but what i'm saying is that it can be easy to think the lemon you had the mis fortune to own is representative of the brand or that the super reliable Honda you owned means the next one will be that way. If only it were that simple.

Its not real modern but what about an SP-1 closest ur gonna get at least Honda electrics will be more reliable LOL :thumbup

I went on a 300 mile round trip sat to Carmarthen in Wales to see a lady friend :devious who incidently is a biker although not a mille owner!!..........and mine never missed a beat!!!.........only symptoms was a non working back brake when I got back so will totally bleed that out and replace with dot 5 overspec fluid!!.......mind you I have gone through the bloody thing with a fine tooth comb and done most of the mods recommended!!

But extremely happy and would deffo never go jap il4 route exhaust note & engine braking is just too good to give up :D

Not posted for a while, but my 06 Factory is now nearing 60,000 miles and in 6 years of ownership (1200 miles on when bought) it's let me down once at 39,000 when the alternator failed. Had more problems with some Jap stuff, ie Yam R1 gearbox (known fault) and various faults electrical and mechanical on numerous Kawasaki's which has put me off that brand.

i use mine everyday for work, think thats what theyre made for, keeps the batt constantly charged and me a reason to get to work early :p never missed a beat, okay the sprag went but I think that was due to the previous owner..

Ive called up about a few bikes, some had been sold not long before i called and others were sold but still advertised :roll and one was advertised at the wrong price, ffs.
While this has been going on ive got some unexpected help from someone and have set about fixing my broken down bike.
It let me down three times trying to get to work and on the third time broke down completely :angry
I thought it was going to cost more than it was worth to to buy parts and fix but because of the help its costing less than expexted.
The help also came with tools i didnt have, so if things go well my bike may be fixed and i will keep it. That is if it doesnt work it ticket when im able to start using it, fingers crossed
I copped some flack about wanting to get rid of it, lol.

If improperly maintained and misused, things will go wrong. If properly maintained and used for purpose, things will go wrong eventually. Think it's just a fact of motoring.

I've had 2 Milles now and they have both been nothing but reliable, but anything could fail at anytime

I don't think it's a German, Italian or Japanese thing, just a case of you win some you lose some. Maybe you'll head back to vtwins when the Audi Ducati takeover has taken hold. Good luck with the honda
