what are peoples thoughts? do you start the bike and let it warm up before riding off or start her up and ride off but dont rev too hard initially?

Bit of both. Start it up, and by the time I have all my gear on its normally about 50 degrees. Take it easy for a bit then but after that it quickly rises to 78.

Start the bike, find helmet and gloves, zip jacket and to be honest, it's at about the right temperature, Like you I live on an unadopted road that's like the surface of the moon right now and I take it easy as there will be crap on the tyres till I get onto a decent road it's low revs till then. Then it's game on;-)

Start bike early in the morning, wake up retired old folk in bungalow across the road , laugh at curtains twitching, go and find where missus had tidied away gloves and lid. Hunt for some cash for petrol, get on bike, get of again and explain to missus just poppin out for a short ride( yeah right ), bike is now well up to temp, ride of down road flat out in first gear. Feel phone vibrating in pocket , wait 2 hours reply to text telling me i am a noisy ****.

...... an fur me in Ricoland, warmin up means twa pair o socks, thermal glove liners and a thick semmit oan under me PJs

p, I changed the front sprocket to a 15t took it off the stand, put ma lid on, fired the bike up and rode off.

I changed from 1st to 2nd and the fecker locked solid, it stuck a bitumastic strip 1" wide by 6" long to the rear tyre, I had to use a wood chisel to remove it.

I let the engine warm up to 60c or above now.

I start her up and ride away, without going over 3000 RPM's until she reaches normal temperature.
