Any one know how often the valve clearance should be checked should it be done on a service or if is sounds ok don't bother cheers

Gen 2 is every 12,500 miles or 24 months according to the manual.... (dunno about Gen 1)

You say "if it sounds ok" but it's if it gets too quiet that the problems are about to start.

Gen 2 is actually 6250 miles but they are rarely our of spec

UK manual :

Maybe you have a different schedule for that side of the pond ?

Its seems they are checked after 600mls at First Service then 12500mls. thats what i was told by 2 ape dealers when i bought mine new 3yrs ago.

for all it takes to check im making a point of doing mine every 10,000mls ... was checked about 1,000 miles ago, bike has nearly 30k on the clock and they were still in spec.. i think one was showing signs of tightening up a bit, so no doubt at the next service interval or two she will be needing to be done..

Snowman its not just the mileage you have to keep an eye on but also the time interval as with most things its what comes first, in the case of valves its 12,500 miles or every 24 months and that also applies to the rear suspension as mentioned on other threads :thumbup

i took mine to Griff's for a service on monday 6000 miler changed fluids checked valves & greased dog bone bearings :thumbup

Brooksy...... so if i buy a new engine and dont run it at all !!! i still have to do the valve clearances every 24months "Utter Bollocks"

Snowman i think a little common sense may prevail here as it does state that it is what comes first! if you have never run a motor then there is no need to service it however if after 24months you decide to run the motor i am sure you would have it checked over prior to start up :yes
