Apolologies in advance if this question has been asked in previously.

I have recently bought a 2005 RSV 1000R. I have been advised to get an Optimate, which I have done.
My question relates to how often should I connect the bike up to it?
IE. Should it be if I know I won't be using the bike for 2/3 days? Or for 7days, or longer? Or should I keep it connected up all the time when not in use?
I tend to use the bike to commute to work 2/3 times a week, weather permitting, but this is only a 10 mile round trip. Unfortunately other matters restrict me to having a decent blast 2/3 times a month over the summer.
Thanks in anticipation.

I would connect it whenever your not using the bike especially if you have an alarm.
Always turn it off before connecting it though so it re-checks the battery state.

What Spoonz said :thumbup

The Optimate is advertised/labelled a 'Battery Conditioner' IIRC as opposed to a out and out charger :)

I leave my connected all the time !! ;) (Not while I'm riding though obviously :roll :sigh)

:biggrin

Ive also just purchased an optimate4 but it didnt come with instructions/manual.

I dont feel i really need them though saying that it would be nice to know exactly what light means what on the display, on/flashing etc.

Mine was at the bottom of the box under the plastic if thats any help.

Many thanks for the advice folks. Plugged in between use it will be.

I was wondering what that 'pulling' sensation was every time i went out. :devious

Keep it plugged in, the optimate will take care of your battery without damaging anything. My alarm drains the battery very quick as it keeps chirping everytime i walk in my garage.
