HI, I've just bought an 05' rsv r, it's just had a full service and MOT.

My problem is once the engine is running and i've selected a gear I can't get it to go back in to nuetral without switching off the engine first. The clutch fluid was changed at the service and is still clear. Anyone got any ideas how to fix this, have heard it may be a common problem with these bikes.

Being difficult to engage neutral is a common issue but being impossible isn't.
I tend to just hit second and tap it in from there, much easier.
I'm guessing you've already tried this so probably look at your clutch master cylinder not being bled properly as this might not be alowing your clutch to fully disengage.
If it's still a pig I've heard that you can change a small jet that sorts the problem out but I've never found it that much of an issue aslong as I enter neutral from 2nd.

Regards Dave

Thanks for your reply Dave, I've tried getting nuetral from 2nd without success, will keep at it though. Do you know which jet would help sort the problem, is the jet located in the master cylinder.

Regards Geoff.

Not sure on an 05 and my mechanical ability is crap but here goes the earlier ones the clutch fluid always changes colour if yours hasn't and falls into this group I would suggest it ain't doing something important Can the dealer not be roped in to sort it?
I have a falco and the clutch jet change was well worth the 10 minutes and 10£

I think it might be hard to rope the dealer in to fixing this since it seems to be a built-in, from the factory, issue on early gen 2 bikes (04-05) rather than a fault with this particular bike. Might be worth a try though!

Rob :)

Just my 2p worth, I've experienced a marked difference in 05 and 06 gear engagement, and the only discernible difference is the jet. For the sake of a tenner & 15 minutes toil it's gotta be worth a try?
I've got a spare jet, PM me if you want it?

Cheers

Mines an 06 and its become second nature to knock it into neutral just before coming to a stop. Otherwise gently edging the bike forward whilst putting pressure on the lever usuallydoes it. Just one of the idosyncraises of these bikes. The gearbox though, does seem to get better with miles on it.

Mine is an 06 and it was impossible to select N at all. Took it to my techie chap and he bled the clutch and replaced the clutch slave seal (i think) and now I get N every time without fail. Only cost me about £20.

My time includes taking it out to see if it's the correct .40 one, dropping the damn thing on the floor & trying to find it again before giving up, robbing one out of the spare engine, fitting it then finding the dropped one (which is the right size) right in front of me :banghead

Oh yes been there Paulw , I feel your pain , like when you drop a battery bolt or nut some where down in the dark recess's of the bike and spends hours looking for it , on a job that should have took 10 mins at the most !!!

Eddie

I did that one and months later found the bolt in the rubber box that surrounds the ecu. I'm certain the box was not even open at the time I lost the bolt. :dunno
