U.S sidestand v Abba stand.

As a few of you know, the Abba stand will not work on the T with a U.S sidestand fitted.I emailed Abba to see if an alternative kit was available,or if one could be made up.After a month with no reply,I did a bit of digging and found the Ducati SS fitting kit was roughly the right dimentions and found a set on ebay for £11.

I used the longer pin of the two and ground about half a mill off to fit the std adaptor. The sharper end was also ground down to fit the T swingarm pivot.
First test was aborted as the Abba r/h side leg would not fit securely to the horizontal bar.I cut 25mm off the bottom of the pin,put it all back together again.
Well the 2nd test went well,....as you bring the bike up,the l/h leg juuuust kisses the sidestand foot. Not a problem as there is a bit of give in the sidestand pivot bolt and the stand stays where it is.I measured up the bits I've got left and could possibly make up an improved mk.2 version.I'll try and get some more pics up tomoz.

Thats an excellent "fix" !

I rang and asked em the same question, they asked me to send em some pics + dimensions which i did. They came back to me within a week to advise that they had nothing like the adapters required (and they dont do a set for the us model - they didnt know it was different).

One possible concern they had was that if they made some extended adapters, it may put a greater strain on the weld on the handle side due to "leverage". Said it would "probably" be ok, but they had not tested the weld to that specific scenario.

Welds are pretty strong, but i decided not to "risk" it,(even thought about welding some angle on or a brace to strenghten it) so have made a bracket to wheel the bike in to hold it upright while i fit the stand (side stand in up position), will post a pic up when its "finished"

I must admit I held my breath while I lifted the bike for the first time.It all seems fine and dandy,....the bike is stable and its been on the stand for 2 days now.I may just get me dad to weld a bit of steel in there,'just in case',but for now,I'm happy.
Good luck with your wheel bracket.

Now I'm fairly pissed so may be talking bollix, but I always put my (Bubsywoo) sidestand up before putting the T onto the Abba stand. Leaving the sidestand down seems unecessary.

Or am I missing the point?

Yes mate, the sidestand foot clouts the l/h leg of the Abba stand as you flick it up.
You could do it if the stand was already in the 'up' position before you fit the Abba,..but then it turns into a 2 man job or you construct a wheel bracket like felix.

Of course my best mate spotted it too and stated pissing 'imself with laughter."You dopey coont,....you spent £11 and all the fookin' about for nowt!":lol
He told me that he had'nt had a bike yet on his Abba that did'nt need the stand flicking up first.
Does that qualify me for '**** of the Week.'?:rolleyes
