whats the general thoughts on tyres,stock pirelli rear just about done,should i stick with these.anyone put michelin 2 cts on ? ive always used them on the duke and got on fine !!
 
Unless you're riding WSB it makes sod all difference.

I've ridden on Pirelli Scorpion Syncs on track, Diablos, 207's 208's and obviously Racetecs, Rennsports and Supercorsas etc.

I've ridden on matched rubber and on mixed pairs, Dunlop front, Michelin rear etc.

It makes no difference at all to average people.

It's all in your head.
 
I had 2CT's on my Tuoldo & loved them.
Windy had bridgestones - move about a bit more than the 2CT's but more progressive into bends
I had Pirellis - didn't like them.

FWIW I have the opposite opinion to Weeksy, I CAN tell the difference between tyres. It's like tyre pressures or suspension.

However, at the end of the day it is as personal a choice as "What's your favourite colour?"
 
Theirs a massive difference in tyre choice. Given the state of the roads that we are forced to negotiate today. Might as well all put ****** nobblies on then.

In my my humble opinion for what its worth tyres are probably THE best investment for a motorcycle after protective clothing.

I use pilot power 2ct's ... they will take all you can throw at them! ..one of the best tyre's out there ...after all why do you ride a bike?...for fun!! so get some good rubber on :thumbup

same as me, rate them above all others, good in the wet or dry, fantastic:thumbup

Unless your competing against the likes of Rossi or Biaggi then stick to the ones listed in your hand book. Recommended by Aprilia.
 
i've fitted bridgestones on me bikes-010's and 014's was gonna try the 016's on my T as it came with what looked like half shagged rennsports but once i got em warmed up they corner quicker and stick like velcro.. so i replaced with more of the same:thumbup not to good in the wet, but as my T is solar powered this aint a problem.
must admit i've only heard good reports on the 2ct's so i may be tempted to try some on this season:cheers
 
There is a difference in tyres and how they work and feel..but it's also true to say that confidence in your tyres is everything.

Find a set you like and stick to them. The new Dunlop Qualifier 11's get very good write ups everywhere and are the latest technology. Tyre technology moves on very quickly in a short time.

And yet remarkably somehow when people are lapping the Manx on 25 year old technology of radial tyres they still lap at over 100mph on a 1963 Norton.

It's remarkable how racers in the 1970s' managed to lap a track 10 seconds quicker than any of us can on bikes with 100bhp more and 40 year better tyres :)
 
I reckon your talking more about the size of the balls there weeksy mate.
 
I agree with Nobi.

I used to knock around with a lad called Roger Burnett when we were teenagers, he once passed me riding a GT185 Suzuki, whilst I was on an RD400 Yamaha. It had fook all to do with tyres or technology, he just rode at a different level. (For those who don't remember he rode 500 GP bikes for Suzuki).

A riding god may match my pace on a unicycle with a flat tyre, but I know from personal experience that having a tyre that I like the feel of makes a huge difference to my pace, and conficence on or off track.

To an extent yes i of course i agree.

A good mate of mine (killed 2 weeks back sadly) ran FWR tyres. Ex British championship racer and was insistent that at the limits average riders are riding at, it makes sod all difference.

The only reason they feel so good is because your mind is trained to feel that through advertising.

It's the same as the people who can tell you they notice 2psi difference in their tyres.
 
Good points here . As long as your tyres are warm then they will work well.
I personally do not like Bridgestones, the reason being is when I was tramping (HGV) our chief mech wouldn`t let us put them on the unit.

I reckon he knew a bit more than me.
Pirrellies are good, I put one on my Bonnie in 1978 .It looked like a snake skin (pattern) but it stuck like glue .
 
think i agree with everything said, i'll stick with the michies as i know and love em.Quick warm up,great on road and track,nuff said really !!
 
There's a few thread already about tyres.
On my 636, prior to the T I had roadsmarts on and found them excellent.
To be honest most tyres out there now are all good, and we are "brain washed" a bit by all the journos hype in bike mags. Most sport touring tyres will do the job, and warm up quicker than sports tyres. As already said its a personal choice
 
I agree with weeksy, change your bike to a Norton, slip on tyres made 40 years ago and go for a blast around the TT course.

Am I missing the point?

Tyres vary from company to company and model to model just find ones YOU like and stick with them.

I got mine second hand off a penny farthing, a bugger to fit.
