Thanks for the info guys! Was v-helpful in helping to choose a set to replacement my excellent Pilot Road CT2's. Managed to get 2,700 miles from the rear (+500 approx by previous owner), but every hard 1hr ride I could see the tread noticably reduced :crazy

I did some extra research, and got the same result as broadly stated above!

Dunlop Sportsmart 2 are one of the best for grip and wear, but some complain they are slower to warm up and a bit wooden until then. Better still are the Metzler 77rr with silicon compound for best grip and mileage!

So now it's official! ;). :thumbup

And better still, I ordered a pair from motorcycleshop.ie (Cork) on eBay for £166 including Paypal fees and postage :D

(And before anyone says these are Chinese counterfeits(!) the shop gets great feedback! ;) )

Call me an old dinosaur but I always use Pilot Power 2CT's, swear by them and I'm reluctant to try owt else.. the T was fitted with Pilot Road 3's when I got it and I hated them

I will agree on this point that Power 2ct are much better for the Tuono than the Pilot road 3 are.
On my Tuono There where Power 2ct on and they are ok for me, but I haven't tried others on this bike.

DK, Good info. I had considered the Pilot Roads as they give much greater mileage than the Pilot Power by Michelin. But as no one on these forums even mention them for a fun bike like the Tuono, I steared clear.

Of course, the Pilot Power are a different (sporty) range to the road/tourer 'Pilot Road' tyre, so 'Pilot Road 3' is not a intended as a replacement for the 'Pilot Power 2's... unless you specifically want less grip and more miles.

Its all subjective....few road riders do everything or feel everything the same.
Personally i've PR4's on both my tuono's n never found them wanting ......had Pilot Pures before that on the V4.
For grip alone the Pure's where awesome until it rained when they could get a bit unpredictable if they cooled too much.... Pilot Power 3 is meant to be great.
Tuono's are hard on tyres so consider what your budget is vs the miles you do.
If i had to choose a grippy tyre it would be Metzler or Michelin or perhaps the Dunlops D212..serious grip once warmed up...iffy when cold.

As a jack of all the Pilot Power 2CT may be old spec but its profile is great for scratching and gives reasonable mileage along with good grip....plus your likely to get some deals on them.

Genman, I agree from a user perspective there is some subjectivity. But in terms of tyre compound and resultant grip vs mileage for a given set of conditions, there is very little subjectivity. Similarly there is very little subjectivity in terms of the tread ability to displace water.

I would also go for something like PR4s if I rode my bike all weathers and wanted one of the best all round tires. :)

Thread dredge :)
My t came with a pilot power 2 ct on the front and a pilot power 3 on the back. They were amazing and thoroughly recommended. I commute and scratch and they lasted 10,000km's (6,000 miles). I couldn't afford them again but got a good deal on Pirelli Angel gt's which have also lasted 10,000 km's. The angels are not as good as the Miche's and turn in differently, but are still a good tyre. I managed to get another good deal on another set of gt's so the second pair are going on now. They suit the bike quite well.
I'm running 180/55 on the rear. Apparently 190/50 is better for mileage as they have a larger contact patch, but I like the turn in on 180's

Has anyone tried a set of z8 interact on the tuoldo ? I'm in the market for a new set of boots and was considering pilot road 2 but the z8 appear to get decent reviews. Currently running bt016 which came with the bike but got 2k from the rear. Fronts ok but will swap front and rear

Yep, my mate ran z8's and really rated them. His tuoldo got written off and he's now on a ktm and still rides z8's

Also read good things about sport smarts but not sure they will give me the mileage I need next year with a European trip planned. I need decent mileage with grippy edges for fast lean action ;)
