Tyre depth

( I really hope there not several ansaws!)

What is the Uk legal minimal tyre depth...... I've seen 1mm a few times yet I have been told 3mm only today buy a dealer!

I take it the front and back would be the same?...:rolleyes

Got pulled by the VOSA mob yesterday, dude said the limit was 1.6mm.

Any vehicle with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) or gross train weight (GTW) over 3500kgs or a motorcycle above 50cc must, either:

The grooves of the tread pattern must have a depth of a least 1 mm throughout a continuous band measuring at least three-quarters of the breadth of the tread and round the entire outer circumference of the tyre, OR
if the grooves of the original tread pattern of the tyre do not extend beyond three-quarters of the breadth of the tread (i.e. common with motorcycle tyres) any groove of the original pattern must have a minimum depth of at least 1 mm.

Mate goto the VOSA site. Don't give the FUDS anymore money. It's 1.6mm over 3/4 of the width over the whole circumference. Update please before you give advice that could cost.:thumbup

sorry bout that,done a google and nearly everyone has it as 1mm heres the site i got it from http://www.etyres.co.uk/uk-tyre-law
just shows ya tho,even the pirelli site has it as 1mm,
you got a link for the vosa site,i cant find min tread depths on it:banghead
noticed the michy man has it as 1.6 tho,cheers and ignor what i said before

1mm bikes
visible tread for scooters (under 50cc)

the rules are pretty clear i thought.

M8. Was pulled in the van and pulling my trailer. Maybe the regs for bikes are different. I'm not worth a feck when it comes to paste and copy stuff. Just put VOSA in your search and yer there. Pull up A Kiwk site. I'm worse than a man short. For real that specky **** had to justify his exesistance and his cohort from customs and excise was fecked when there was no red. I'm so glad I live in this country.

Road tarrfic law states, as Johny first said. 1 mm etc.
1.6 is for cars.
