Hey again. Been a while since I was here, getting some good advice from the folks. Some family problems have interfered with both web and new bike access. In any case finally got around to changing bikes and bought an 06 RSV-R in silver for "Christmas", nice wife to be so generous.

Not been able to ride it much as I said weather's been wet and cold of late and it seems that on the nice days I've got something more important to do.

Anyway it had like 3700 miles on when I bought it and the dealer put on a new rear (Dunlop 208) but left the front. Having some issues getting to grips with it all and I don't have much faith in the front at the moment, in the wet at least.

Before I bought I'd considered getting sports touring tyres fitted anyway, probably Michelin PR 2s which I had on my Fazer and were brill. Any thoughts on this?

I reckon I can get the rear taken off and leave it until the summer when the PRs should be on the way out anyway then get a new Dunlop front in time for track day season!

Other obs about the bike. Chain showed some surface rust the one day I rode to work when it p*ss*d down so I'm considering a chain oiler.

Other than that it's utterly brilliant except the rear brake which is poo. Looking forward to hooking up on one of the rideouts if they come up this way.

I have dunplop 208's on mine. I had them on two previous bikes and never trusted them..too twitchy. if I had the money I'd bin em now :jack

but i'm assuming most of you are on super sports or even semi track tyres. great for the summer and i'm all for bringing that on. at the moment though i want something i don't have to worry about warm up times and wet weather grip, hence ST tyres.

i guess i should stop being a pikey and ditch them for something i'm happier with BS or Mich just seems a waste of a brand new rear which i might well be happy with in the summer.

I've just about made up my mind to try the Michelin Pilot Power 2CT's next. They seem to have the balance I want, just about everything!

Good tyres with good life the 2ct's, i have found them to slide a fair bit (spinning up mid corner on the power) compared to S/C's or Racetecs etc., but then again they are not marketed in the same bracket as them, the S/C's etc being more track orientated tyres, certainly as an all rounder they offer good dry and wet weather performance with a reasonable life span, they get my vote as a good road tyre:thumbup

I went from Diablo corsas to Dunlop GPs in medium compound - absolutely breathtaking. By a million miles the best and most confidence inspiring ever. Warmed up in moments and never ever let go - on road or track. I love the diablo's but these are something else.

got to admit it had the dunlops on and hated them, like riding on ice when pushed.... 2CT's on at the moment but going for some Corsa III next:thumbup

After I'd dropped the cbr on a roundabout I had 2ct's fitted and the difference in handling was like black to white, very confidence inspiring. I would certainly get them again :thumbup

Back to the 208's...on my way home from work tonight, in the wet, the bike was sliding all over on the roundabouts and across white lines and I was taking it steady as I have no faith in them....absolute ***** :jack

You reckon its a waste of a new tyre by ditching them now :eatcorn what will be a waste is sliding down the road coz they've let go on you  if you can afford it mate (i cant at the moment) change them as soon as you can

I had the same problem as Badger above with the Dunlop's and also hated them am now using metzeler sportec M3's and can't fault them on my second set now but will have a go on the pirelli corsa's when these run out

I bet yer anus twitched a bit as those tyres went Badge!! My Pirelli Dragon Super corsas stick like **** to a blanket in summertime. Its a tall bike to get yer knee down on so if you are a big bloke like me get something fairly sticky if you want to get her over a bit:thumbup

Aye, they actually deflated as the de-lamination went right through to the canvas, made corners interesting:eek:

bah nah im an all wheather biker i cant fault the diablo come rain or shine.

I waited for my dunlops to wear out before i upgraded to the diablos but soon as i did i wished i hadnt waited and had done it straight away and just ditched the dunlops least thats my feelings

Have had couple of pairs of corsaIII's and nouthing but Praise!
going with 2ct's this time for *****&giggles, bumping up to a bigger footprint too,190.55

Cheers for the info guys looks like i'll be ditching the dunlops all together and going mich or maybe pirelli. Today would have been a great time to do it actually fairly warm with nice dry roads perfect for scrubbing. Shame I came to work in the car and had to sit in traffic for an hour.

DOH

Got some new tyres fitted yesterday and the difference is amazing. In fact I think part of the issue may have been the shagged out front -> new rear combination. Anyway I plumped for Michelin, went for Pilot Road 2s as I'll be doing a lot of Motorway miles between now an June.

I've kept the 208RR for what's got to be a hot summer when I shall mostly be trying to shred it at Donington!
