Track Bodywork???

hi everyone,

looking for a bit of advice on which track bodywork to get. UK-wise its either the stuff from Austin racing or off Ebay via Pro-fiber Uk. There is a £100 pound difference between them and i was wondering if anyone has experience of them...well i know some of you will as im quite late to getting mine out on track. The Austin comes with all fasteners and some sponge for my butt. Im wondering as i cant imagine either set standing upto an off so is the Austin worth the extra???

Also would also like to get some frame and swingarm protection as my R1 04 swingarm would come into contact with the floor in an off and i would like to protect it as much as possible. Does anyone have experience of the stuff thats availiable, on the Austin site they do not say if theirs has kevlar in to help. Again its either Austin, Ebay or XPS.

Obviously going to get crash bobbins and was wondering what people views on these are, i had some of these on my R1 but lucky for me never tested them. And does anyone know what happened to Creations Engine Armour as their stuff was excellent pieces of kit???

Sorry for all the questions but hoping to get my bike ready for the summer fun.

Hi,
AR carbon is kevlar backed, our bodykits are a good fit and tuff with carbon strengthening at all fixing points.

Hi Rich, while we're on the subject, will the white fiberglass nose/front fairing fit the bike as a stand alone item retaining the original side panels and belly pan and air tubes?

no sorry it won't. We do do a road front fairing for the race kit with full headlight mounts in it.

cheers for the reply was more edging onto your side due to yours including fixings and sponge, i hope its a lot of sponge......
glad to hears its all in stock as hoping to be ordering soon. if you specify the sidestand cut out does it still have the oil catch tray and does that effect whether its in stock or not. just thinking of leaving sidestand on for ease of parking at track days. i find with my mx bike constantly leaning right over to pick up the stand gets annoying after a while.
might be a bit of a numb question but does the kit come with a screen?? hope also eventually to get the swingarm and frame protectors.
one other question due to your experience with the BSB Evo team did you fit crash bobbins. i ask because when tammy got her 06 R6 she was recommended not to fit them as due to their positions they flip the bike over or at least push it over onto the tank....Just wondering what your experiences where???? as i was naturally thinking swingarm on the rear axle, fork sliders and then frame and engine ones.

No probs,
We cut the cut out to order, still has a catch all bellypan. Comes without screen. We did fit crash bobbins and they do work, R&G type on ebay or the aprilia type. The aprilia type have to be cut about to fit race bodywork but look nicer.

Hi Marc,

I use ARD track bodywork http://www.ardracing.com.



It's made out of coarse-mat fibre and does not have any reinforcing around the holes, so a bit of care has to be taken when tightening things up (The gel coat is beginning to crack on mine around the tail-top fixing.) If you get them coloured, they colour the gel coat, which is very durable.

In the words of ARD themselves, the product is designed to a price, so, for example, the top/bottom fairing seam is not perfectly flat and the seat unit, since it is designed to be one-piece, leaves a fairly wide gap around the undertray.

If you go this route, put old socks on the seat fairing spars when you fit the fairing - the spars the best tank scratchers in the business. Also, I'd recommend ditching the cross-head 'dzus' fasteners and using the OEM (allen-head) ones (you may need an extra nylon washer on them to get the right tension.

If you get the coloured parts, additional holes (e.g. to fix the top fairing onto the mirror brackets) are etched on for easy drilling. If you get them ready to paint, they're not (which can make lining up difficult).

Aside from having trashed one set, I've had the current set for three seasons with no problems.

IMHO - Don't. I've had two experiences where the bobbin has dug into the ground and flipped the bike, causing a lot of fairing, tank/seat, engine and frame damage. I never fit them and my last 'off' was a 120mph low-side that only trashed the fairing.



Having said that, it's really the luck of the draw - some folks swear by them, others (like myself) swear at them.

I tried doing exactly what you are thinking of last year. Firstly I can't recommend austin racing enough, they're really good.

I started by buying the nose fairing and using body filler I could actually make the two items join together pretty well. But the new paint scheme came out and I decided to repaint the whole bike so I brought the side fairings & belly pan (having to undo my bodge!). keeping the rear as standard just with a new paint job

After it was all done I'm really glad I brought the side panels as they fit much better than my efforts did and you'll soon forget about the money when it looks so good!

PS I kept the front headlight in and AR kindly cut a hole in the front fairing for me so i can ride it on the road!

is it best to phone to order for the discount or do it online. it will be for a full race set with sidestand cut out. hopefully order the carbon protectors later in the year.
