too slow... :(

D

diabolico

hi guys... i recently bought a 2000 rsv,and i installed a 2-2 04 rsv exhaust with cored cand. while it was with the original exhaust i noticed it had no much power as i thought it should have. after i changed the exhaust the difference wasn't that much. this last weekend i went for a ride with friends and i felt terrible, even the honda 600rr where faster than me.what i can say about the bike that is that it only has power to pull up the front for a wheelie on the 1st gear and in the highway only goes to 230km/h,no power for more. is that normal on that engine or is the engine not ok? thanks

Just changing the exhaust will not add power (well okay maybe a couple of hp)
Our engines 98-00 (maybe 01) make about 118 bhp as standard, but change the ecu chip (Dr Rossi), airbox (hooked)and maybe a power commander (budget permitting) you could see around 125 bhp (ish).
A throttle body balance is probably in order too.

The problem with the early motors is head design, twin plugs mean small valves = less airflow :-(

The thing with twins is not to over rev them but short shift while in the fat part of the torque curve ...................get it right and nothing will touch you especially coming out of bends and twisties :)

If your bike goes only 230kmh, then something is not right, should get to atleast 250kmh, then start to slowly rise.

Depending on the state of the engine (it might have been treated badly, be out of tune etc etc) & gearing

230kms = 142 mph
250kms = 155 mph

If your bike goes only 230kmh, then something is not right, should get to atleast 250kmh, then start to slowly rise.

If it makes you feel any better mine is slow as well, and the dyno has revealed healthy power.
I blame it on 2 things:
1.) It has a drag co-efficient like a bus (which is why I want a smaller front end)
2.) The speedo is very accurate.

I read a test of an RSV in Bike and the speedo was bang on all the way to flat out. Most bikes over read horribly, my 2007 R6 once showed me 172mph. That was probably 162mph if I was lucky!

You may have been 'doing 250kph' on your old bike, but really it was 240kph. Kinda throws your judgement out a little...

Hi folks. I'm very new to Aprilia and this forum having bought a 2002 rsvr a few weeks ago after moving on my Carl Fogarty replica. I don't know the difference in power between the models but mine can only gradually gain on my mates 675 Daytona if he's in front and nails it. As for top speed, I haven't explored that yet!

You have a 2000 model, and sorry they are the slowest of all of the mille models, you will have to go with 01-03 cylinder heads, and camshafts, to just get the power of newer mille models. i would go with a 2-1 exhaust, pc-3, air box, dyno tune, and gear the **** out of it -1 in the front +2 or 3 in the rear, and you will enjoy the bike a lot more!!! good luck!!

I have a power commander chip, amazing [but very illegal]:devious exhaust -can't remember the manufacture [look at the picture] modified air box [part of the tank now :thumbup- see racing spec] Use decent fuel and service it well. It is NOT slow and the drive out of corners will leave most things dead.
The only downside [to some, but not to me:confused] to this chip and exhaust is that it takes much of the power upstairs - so it is not dissimilar to a four. However it still retains that famed grunt and effortless drive once the bike gets half upright again. IT IS NOT ALL ABOUT POWER
Oh yes, it is a 2000 model!:nana
I really believe that it is not about top speed etc etc, but more about enjoying your ride, having a fantastic chassis and getting home thinking "My, that was good"

Well said Phill !!!! I think some people miss the point sometimes or like to be straight line jonnies, its not about the straights, its all about the curves :devious

Les, You are so right, :thumbupmaybe I am getting old! but top end speed means nothing to me [been there, done that] Get in a Lambo, Porsche, etc - just the same - put your foot down & look at the clock - see your top speed - so what - There is little or no input in high speed unless there is technical input required.:angry
75mph or 145mph, the figure is unimportant. Are you on the straight or a corner, that is important. I have been on and off various bikes for over 30 years [old git] but am relishing the opportunity to improve [scare myself:eek:] and enjoy my riding on a R. As I said before 'It is not about power' 100mph is 100mph on a Busa, a Blade a Fizzie or a R
ps Apologies to the younger generation I KNOW [TO YOU] TOP SPEED IS EVERYTHING:exclamation

i never said i prefer going straight and all the speed instead of making really good curves,i just said about the speed so someone coult tell me if it is normal the bike dont go more then 230.beside that, you should come and ride where i live,is in the mountains, close to lisbon,we dont have many straight roads, and when there is they're small.high speed only on the highway.anyways,my bike is all derestricted and now i have a 2-2 04 rsv decored exhaust, and k&n air filter and is what i said, looks like shes tired.

As a relative youngster (age 26) I guess I fall into the 'top speed' camp...

Only I don't. Not properly. I've never had the Mille flat out, as I've had no need to.

However, I've said it before and I'll say it again that if you are to improve yourself or your bike, work on the weakest area. The Mille has great midrange, and it doesn't need more but it is lacking top end horsepower and speed.

I feel the RSV is a bit of a willy extension sometimes (bear with me)...

It's a 1000cc thumping v-twin, but often slower than a 600. Oh, and less reliable too! Last time I rode the RSV at Brands I revelled in the pull out of the slow corners, but did miss the screaming top end. I don't need 170mph, but I can sympathise with guys when it starts to struggle over 130mph...

Hope that makes sense?

what gearing are you running... when i stuck mine on the dyno with standard gearing (RSV 2002) i had a look @ the Max speed... it said 161mph (still air... so no ram air effect... but no drag either so probably balances out) !! :eatcorn

then when i stuck it on with 1T smaller on front it read Max speed 168mph on same dyno... so the gearing will affect it... i personally thought it would be the other way round but the guy said that the bike is very overgeared & cant pull the potential top speed with the standard gearing !? :dunno

plus... at higher speeds... you really need to tuck in your head, elbows & knees/feet to get the full effect... but id also assume yours should pull much more than that speed !! :confused

got 15/42 on mine Vmax says 148mph/236kph (must be broken officer:dunno) and that was about 9500rpm so maybe a little more left if that helps.

Also as mentioned before I think the clock reads alot more accurate than the japs, when I follow my mate on his tl through a 50mph speed camera my clock says 46mph. so if you scale that difference up, his clock showing 170 would be about 155 on mine.

Don't know if that is how it works, but it makes me feel better:D

I'm also 26 and happy with the top speed... at the moment.

Something dont sound right mate...when out on mine, me and a friend hit the M1 Slip road and he was on a new R6 last to say he did not get near me :devious must be the bike or rider :thumbup:nana

well mate... i believe theres many guys better then me,but one thing is true, they will have to fight a lot to leave me behind. the thing here is what i've been talking about,i believe the bike is not good and i asked for advices about how she works, its my first v2 engine. if i compare it to the r1 i was used to ride...well i cant compare,i would loose it is a few seconds and i believe it shouldn't be like that.

did the bike feel the same before fitting the twin exhausts !? :confused

id whack it on a dyno & see if its healthy or not... might be something simple the operator can pick up on !? :dunno

just re-read your 1st post... lol... forget the 1st question !! :pirate

just stick it on a dyno !! :eatcorn
