Hi im new to this forum,
I'm currently riding a Honda CBR 600rr 04 and i'm looking to move to the RSV 1000 r 2004+
1. Could you tell me about the reliability of the bikes.
2. Common problems (clocks resetting)
3. Things to look out for when buying the bikes

Cheers

Matt

Welcome to the forum.

Just buy an RSV that's been looked after. :thumbup

If it's scratched and bashed on the exterior then the rest of it will be ***** too.

You'll love it after riding a Honda. :doug

Hi mat just keep the battery in tip top condition and you will be ok have a good look around for a fsh one mate you will not be unhappy with it good luck mat and welcome to the zone:thumbup

Go for it. I've just got a totally original, low milage, one owner minter for give away money. Had loads of bikes, just replaced a KTM LC8 950 SM with my RSVR. Very different but I'm happy so far :)

Hi mate I've recently made a similar change I can't see me ever going back.
I had an 07 ZX6r that I spent over £4k getting it up to Superstock spec, but I got pissed off going every where at a million RPM doing 30mph, so I traded it at my mates shop for an 06 reg 05 Factory and love it to bits.
I took it to Brands on 7th of April two weeks after buying it and it is a F**king brilliant trackbike (although I have spent some time getting the basic setup how I like it) it was lapping within 2-3 seconds of my ZX. I'm the limiting factor on this bike.
the handling on Diablo Supercorsas is confidence inspiring enough for me to have pretty much scrubbed the whole front tyre
I can't advise on reliability as I've owned the bike for nearly a month but researched RSVRs prior to buying one and believe the engines to be bullet proof, Although the charging system can sometimes have issues which can lead to a flat battery and eventually a knackered Sprag clutch on the starter optimate is a wise precaution (there is a fix http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=171391&highlight=brown+connectors).
The clutch slave cylinder apparently needs regular bleeding as does the back brake I've never used mine so can't comment, alternative slave cylinders are available although I'm not going to bother as I don't mind the clutch pull although I may fit a better billet master cylinder.
I have found that neutral is a ***** to find and have just received a .04 clutch jet which I'll be fitting tomorrow which is supposed to cure that issue.
If you buy an 04-05 check to see that the swingarm recall has been carried out mine wasn't and Inmoto have me booked in on the 11 may to do that job not a big deal but a PITA.
Oh the side stand is **** I've fitted a 20mm nylon block under mine.
Beware of any CHEAP non STD levers they can cause the front brakes to bind or even come on due to insufficient free play on the brake plunger so stick to genuine or quality like Pazzos etc.
There was an update in 2006 a few detail changes like the rear seat unit, front fairing, smaller clutch oil jet, bigger valves etc and also I believe the offset of the forks was changed although I haven't been able to confirm that.
Go out now and buy one.:thumbup

PS I was advised that using the recommended grade of oil is a must 15/50 semi synthetic I also fitted the later oil filter housing and longer filter for no other reason than having bigger filter made sense to me and it only cost £20 for the upgrade.

chappers that was the perfect insight i was looking for!! cheers for that!!

Done 21,000 miles on mine in just over 2 years. Only faults a speedo sensor (£16 after the wash out last summer) and the back brake which doesn't.
When I bought it, it used a bit of oil not excessive, but as mileage as increased it now uses none.

Have had my 05 plate 1000R two and a half weeks now after having a ZX6R for the last couple of years. Have been riding Jap stuff for past 30 years. Why did I not get one of these sooner? Massive big grin on my face as soon as it fires up. My advice. Go for it. You won't regret it.

:thumbup Welcome and they are a very awesome bike . some little things just stay on top of the battery and regular matninace and you will all have a smile when you ride.. :doug

Hi and welcome.Just keep it plugged in to an optimate all the time and you won't have too many problems and go for the YTX14 BS or the new YTZ series uprated battery when you require a new one.

I converted last year from inline fours (GSXR) and must say RSV's are the bees knees. Few things though. Make sure the sprockets are 16/44. Change the OEM clutch slave to an market jobbie. Ditch the standard cans for a less restricted item/items. Lower forks to show 4 rings and get some decent tyres. Insurance is cheapish, Fuel consuption is about average. They're comfy and the standard bits are decent quality. I'm told some parts are difficult to find, but loads of people on here will advise where the best places are.

Make the change and try them out:thumbup:thumbup They make a proper noise that ILF cant!!

Hi Matt
In the last 3 years I've gone from a new Gixxer 600 to a year old ZX10 and now an 04 Mille. I got over two grand change from the ten with the same mileage. The Mille has the most character by far. No regrets whatsoever. The Gixxer handled probably better as standard set up but my Mille's been tweaked and it handles superbly now. The ZX was just mental and rather intimidating for the road, like riding a wild bull. The Mille is the best of both worlds, loads of grunt and quick without being too much. I truly think it has got to be one of the best road bikes, biased I know but they are that good. Now, your questions:
1. Mine's been spot on in 4500 miles (now 8800 on the clock) but just lately been hard to engage and jumping out of gear at high revs. Always started though and no other issues in last 15 months.
2. Batteries drain but just leave on Optimate or similar. Sidestand is crap but I always leave mine in gear and am really careful where and how I park it after it fell into a fence.
3. Just make sure it's mint and full history and you won't go wrong.

Good luck! Also, the lads on here are spot on so if you ever need anything you will always find the help.

Cheer guys really appreciate the input!! Finding it hard to find a dealer though! do they sell though someone else?
