Was looking one over today at Thruxton and thought it looked a lovely bit of kit - thought I would get an objective view from you guys so...............What do ya think :dunno

you are aware you are posting on an aprilia forum about a ducati!!! lol

yeah it is a stunning bike, i used to love the idea of the ducati but then i spoke to a bloke at forza and he told me about the £1000+ a year servicing costs just to keep the fooker on the road. a clutch is £300!!!!!!!

its gorgeous and very fast, i say if you got the cash go for it mate!

Duc people will just tell me how good it is thats why I asked here. No offence meant as I own and love my Mille. I am told the servicing costs on the new bike are a lot less :dunno Thanks for your comments :thumbup

They do look awesome mate :inlove but you should get a test ride on one if your serious about one, i know a guy on another forum just got one after a ZX10R, he says it's pretty good, well, bloody brilliant in some areas, not in others, but not worth the extra money over the Kwak :dunno

Depends what you want it for, track or road :dunno he says it's more suited for the track :thumbup

Well if nothing goes wrong maintenance costs the same as with every bike.
Normaly they have some problems with electricity, like all Italian bikes, even aprilias (fu*king efi :D)

I havent ridden this ducati, but I have some others. The dry clutch is amazing, gearboxes are realy a lot better than aprilias, smooth and precise.

Powerwise it has to be good, and v2 bikes are all known for their great handling.

But I have a friend who owns a ducati monster 1000s (i think its the 05 or 06) and was well maintained, only had around 15kkm and something broke in the engine :D. The repair was around 500eur+. I asked the servicer(hope its the right word) if he can check my bike so similar doesnt happen to me. He just said.. Its a ducati, sometimes this things happen, no need to worry about aprilia.

That kinda keeps me in doubth if my next bike will be a ducati, but there realy isnt that much of a choice in the v2 market, now that aprilia is out.

One more thing, ducati parts are cheaper than aprilias :)

And another :D, I would go for the normal version, not the S. And if you wont like the suspension (although for most rider its more than enought) you can buy a aftermarker ohlins for the rear and ohlins cartriges for the front. It will work better then OEM ohlins, for the same price or less.

This is his first review of it :thumbup Legzr1 is a top fella and what he says can be taken pretty much as gospel ...

Da da daaaaaa.....

Quick review (only got 125 miles on it and engine is really tight).

Engine : still really tight.Turbocharged Massey Ferguson.Loud,loud clutch,loud exhaust,loud intake noise,just loud ok?

How the fook this thing is Euro III compliant i'll never know.

Handling :
love10.gif
.Still needs bedding in but quick steering (for a Ducati),still holds a line beautifully but a little closed-throttle understeer (easily sorted).
Fully fueled feels far lighter than the ZX10 at very low speeds then feels like a 250 stroker at speed.

Brakes : FOOKING HELL

- little two-finger *** seriously nearly had me over the bars - my wrists are fooked after today. At one point (missing a give way while looking for a garage) it had my arse off the seat and both feet off the pegs at the same time.

Clutch : heavy, hydraulic and horrendously noisy - thankfully the lever is adjustable so that will be getting fettled today.

Comfort : Errrrr,nope.

Build quality : Ohlins stuff oozes quality, rest of the bike is nothing special (not what you'd expect for this sort of money).Stone chipped already.

Mirrors : atrocious - blurred views of shoulders don't help on roads infested with police.Kit comes with mirror extenders which will be fitted asap (Bike comes with loads of extras - need to go back in a car to pick everything up - only managed to take the (400 page !!) owners manual with me.

Overall : I'm well happy - it's got all the good parts of the 9** series without the faults - thoroughly sorted machine.I can only imagine what the motor will be like once I can use full throttle/revs - put it this way - yesterday,6000 rpm max and no more than 1/4 throttle and I had a blast - very, very deceiving engine. You can feel it pull but it's nothing like the kick in the arse of an inline 1000cc bike at high revs.
You think "yeah, this isn't bad but..." then all of a sudden you're at the next corner going 30 mph quicker than you thought.

So that's why they fitted monobloc Brembos

Gonna take some getting used to but I think i'm gonna love this bike.

DDA (Ducati data aquisition) could be a bit of liability - records everything including speed, lap times, gear, throttle position, traction control activation etc etc - a copper with a usb memory stick could get you 5 years in prison.

Last point(s).

(i) Is this bike worth a 2008 ZX10R plus £8500?

No way.

(ii) Do I care?

No,nah,nope

My mate has an 1198R out of the 11 weeks he has owned it its been in the dealers for 6 of those.

Battery kept going flat , stator was faulty then the dealer managed to screw up the ecu somehow, then the clutch failed.....would say that the majority of time seemed to be waiting for parts. When its running its uncatchable.

love the look of em best lookin bike on road .but servicing costs and that bloody bag o nails clutch would do my head in . i believe the 848 has a wet clutch though

Well I was looking at them on saturday (Once I took my self away from a lovely miille, oh it was mine :lol) at On ye bike. Looked a little thin but wow a nice bike.
One rode off as we had a break and wow its noisy, sounded nice when he opened it up but at a standstill it sounded like a bag of nails in a washing machine. Love all the seethrough bits on it too.

If I had the cash I wouldn't say no, would prefer one over the rsv4! now i've started something, sorry!

Fast Bikes gave it a right slagging in their bike of the year issue. I'll stick with my Mille thanks.

I had a ride of an 1198 with termi's on sat. yeah nice bike but I kept slipping forward onto the tank, they vibrate when idling like fcuk, not as comfortable pos to ride and I thought power del. not as good as my black beauty. Spose I'm just used to mine. They are nice though they're pretty pricey. i still like to test ride the duc's because of my love affair with my 750SS 30 years ago. Now that was a nice bike, but now I'm in love with my RSV, the Rotax is a great power source, maybe I gotta try a big bore kit?

848 = wet clutch, more power than a mille, fixed price servicing with wider intervals than Aprilia (that goes for 1198 as well ) huge service costs is ********. not anymore that was pre the latest generation.

i paid £8700 for mine.

Yes they can go wrong like any bike but the Ducati warranty seems very good. Heard no stories of refused claims.
Just had mine serviced £127 at a Ducati dealer. How much was your last Aprilia dealer service ?

forgetting the is it better or not stuff, it's just different. Better in a lot of areas worse in a few. If your in the market for a new bike and want Italian twin what's your choice. A £15k Rsv4 for almost double what i paid for my 848.

Even if i liked the look of it £15k forget it.

Whats a 'service' ?

remind me not to buy your bike if it's ever for sale

1198 etc exhaust gets through testing by the way because it has a flapper valve in the headers that partially shuts at certain revs.

Fit a DP Ecu and aftermarket cans and it's held open all the time = more ponies. I've never run my 848 without a Dp Ecu/termi's to say how different it feels but i'm told the fueling is 10 times better.

I read the test in Performance Bikes a few weeks ago that compared an SP1, RSV, 1198 and GSXR 750.

They loved the Ducati, and I know if I had the money I'd definitely have one.

You're a lucky, lucky man. I know the Japanese bikes are cheaper and arguably faster, but just getting onto a Ducati makes me smile.

Heart v Head, eh?
