Then there was no midrange. . . . .

Here goes. Bought a 54' plate (03) back in September '08 from DUCATI WOLVERHAMPTON (do not buy a bike from this garage). On the ride home i noticed that the midrange was a bit flat, didnt really think much of it and left the warranty to slip as you do. Discovered that the bike had been derestricted and that it was running the standard can, K+N filter and a performance chip. Thinking that a pipe change was in order i bought a GP style MIVV can off the web and fitted it. This just made the flat spot feel REALLY bad. The flat spot is about 4,000rpm to 6,800, f*cking awsome once out of the flat spot. I got hold of a standard chip and the flat spot was still there.

So, 2 weeks ago i had a major service and a bill for £653 due to Speedaway Motorcycles exploring the flat spot. Had a new fuel pressure regulater which had no affect on the poor midrange. (i'm boring myself now. . . . . zzzzzz)

Went to try it yesterday with a standard chip and exhaust and the K+N and it went fine and it had midrange! put the performance chip back in and the MIVV exhaust and K+N flat spot came back. . . . .so i bought a new GIANNELLI chip thinking that the Performance chip i had was duff and guess what. . . .ITS STILL THE SAME!!!!!!! NO MIDRANGE.

I hate this bike at the moment, i have a petrol can and a match ready, unless of course someone has bright idea. . . .OVER TO YOU!

Defenetly a problem with air/fuel ratio, a good chip should fix this, pm drRossi with you problem and maybe he can fix you up ;)

Put the standard chip back in for the time being. It is still amongst the best out there. Did Speedaway correctly set up the throttle bodies? An rsv should run perfectly fine with standard chip and aftermarket end can. The k&n will do nothing on RSV's.

You say the bike runs fine on the standard chip and exhaust but as soon as you put the mivv can on the midrange is poor?

You got a piccie of your bike Pete as I don't want to advise you incorrectly?

Is the old shape or new shape RSV?

New shape = Wrong map/TB set up poorly
Old shape = Poorly set up TB's/badly written EPROM

Let us know so we can try and help

AMB67, 'tis the old shape 2003 model year.

LEGS, i had to borrow a standard RP58 chip from speedaway as i didn't have one when i bought the bike.

Speedaway reckoned that the TPS and the CO sensors were way out and they duly sorted these, they checked the valve clearances and they were fine. Also they reckon there was loads of crap including water in the petrol tank, in fact he reckoned that when he drained the petrol out the tank he found that there was some kind of orange liquid similar to orange juice, that didn't even smell ike petrol! Could this be something breaking down in the tank?

The new Giannnelli chip is performing exactly the same as the Performance chip that was in the bike when i bought it.

Where could i purchase an RP58 standard chip from??????

I wouldn't buy an RP58 EPROM mate, PM DrRossi for a custom mapped EPROM.

I have one fitted to mine and it's excellent.

The water in the fuel tank will be due to the breathers around the fuel cap being blocked, happens all the time. Just clear em out with a blast of air and away you go again.
