Wednesday: called up Motropolis Motorcycles to finally get bike booked in for a map change
Thursday: dropped bike in and quoted thirty something squid, which I am happy to pay.Come to think of it,my plugs havent been changed in yonkers. Why waste my sat morning changing them myself when I could be out on the bike in tommorow's forecasted warmish day. Besides, its pay day tomorrow so throw that in as well please Mr Metropolis
Friday: Finish work early to pick up the bike, handed over a 112 squid invoice.

Scene one:

Me: Ummmm, is this right?
Mr Metropolis: Oh yeah, one hour labour to change map(@75 squid an hour) and to replace both plugs (£6.75 each), £7.50 for (wait for it) sundries and lubricants.
Me: How do you work out an hours labour for that
Mr Metropolis: The tank and airbox have to be removed
Me: The tank doesn't completely get removed and the airbox is a piece of piss to remove. (trying to act like I know what I am talking about) You cant honestly tell me that changing the plugs and a re map took an hour?
Mr Metropolis: Actually, your ECU had errors, which had to be quarantined before the map was switched over
Me: (completely out of my comfort zone now, trying to be sarcastic) All that hard work on the computer hey?
Mr M: Yeah actually, its not as easy as it sounds. Your errors went back to 2009
Me: (more sarcasm), Does that mean they take longer to clear up?
Mr M: Actually, we spent more about two hours on the bike but decided to charge you for only one as 2 would have been unreasonable
Me: Why would you charge me less than the worth of work you have carried out. That just makes me doubt your service and pricing

blah blah blah blah The exchange continues until I just give in and fork out the tax. In hindsight the numbers do add up, but I object to the defensive stance taken by Mr M. Sure it should have clicked that changing the plugs on a T isn't straight forward and would take longer than normal, so more expensive....but thats my Friday night beer money just had! What better way to spend my Friday night than share my sob stories with absolute strangers.

Happy Friday all!:thumbup

I thought changing the map on a Gen 2 was a 5 minute job. At least it was when Griff did it to Gilo's bike and the ecu having errors going back to 2009. What a load of tosh I reckon that was. All it said when Griff showed me the mapping was 1 or 2 on a screen not any errors.

I got charged £50 for the map change by Millings in Whitehaven - 10 minute job - definitely got reamed.

I never get anything done on my bike/car with a new mechanic without being given at least a ballpark fiq for the work, saves any nasty shocks

You live and learn I guess. Thought my experience was a one off but looks like Metropolis don't have a good reputation on other forums. Its an unfortunate situation because they are probably the largest motorcycle dealer around central London.

Always get a price first if its going to be any more they should ring to OK the extra's

I only paid about £22 to get my map done half hour labour they tried to charge me the full hour but i questioned it and got to half hour
