The back brake conundrum?

Mine used to be poor. KZmille bleeding technique was the best method to cure it, but it still faded over time. I latterly moved the master cylinder onto some rearsets and ran the hose away from the exhaust (over the swing arm). Its been rock solid ever since.

mine was non-existant too on the 07 Factory, Griff bled it for me, it was fine for 5 miles, then no brake again ... I put on a set of Griff's rear-sets, bled it the KZmille way, now have a back brake ... still a ***** rear brake, but it's better than no brake at all ... nowhere near as good as the Fireblade's was and don't understand why not :-(

i gotta bloke who comes in regular for his rsv mille 01 servicing 55k and still goin strong, and every time he comes in he has no rear brake at all
he has replaced everything on the system to try to cure it but to no avail ,same with a 06 tuono that comes in.
but for every one that comes in with no rear brake there is another 30 that give no problem at all.
wierd !

i think if they made the mounting bracket for the masterclynder out of a material that didnt transfer heat from the engine the problem would dissapear !
but why dont all the bikes do it ?

ct i read a post on the af1 site that suggested that it may be due to cavitation in the brake fluid.

The cause of the cavitation being the vibration from the engine.

If you suffer from this then you're always going to unless you move the M/C to another area.

If it is a heat issue then using dot5.1 or above should make a difference and maybe cure the problem, not in my case.

If you reckon it's down to the heat from the exhaust then how much of a difference is there between the route that each brake line takes from the M/C to the calliper.

Just whit I read but I have to agree that it's not just an issue with heat.

Yer got yer hair cut yet. :thumbup

rearsets fixes the problem, done!

the brenbo master cylinder that aprilia used on the back brake was designed bybrembo to be located vertially not horizontally so if you reloate the rear barke master cylinder onto a set of rearsets , the cylinder is located correctly and it works no problem!

Thats why we sell our own rearsets , i couldnt afford the exsisting rearsets on the market, and i wanted my back brake to work as i use mine!

Pattern formed and problem solved!

Hope this helps lads?

giday griff, my backbrake has always worked, (aprilia style), does your mod make the backbrake more useable; ie dragg'n through a corner, greasy roads etc, basically every brembo rear caliper i've used has been useless except for using on a hill, i'm thinking of getting another brand caliper and maybe some of your rearsets

I have Griff's rearsets on my 09. The back brake is marginally better than the on on Liz's 07. Either bike will lock the rear wheel if you press hard enough.

A side effect - the rearsets improve the gear change - I don't get false neutrals any more.

Cheers BF

im not sure we can improve on the braking efficiency of that caliper, TBH im not sure id want to!!

this is my opinion only....

the problem that i see with the rear brake is that the lever is really short so the leverage that we can put into the system is limited, check out other bikes brake levers they are longer. The rearsets do go a way to sorting this as they are a bit longer than the standard lever and therefore giving a slightly better braking effect....but the caliper is small so its not gonna be great whatever we do to it!
i personally wouldnt change it as locking up a rear brake isnt something that i need from my bike, but the ability to settle the bike pitching into turn if it starts to get a bit scary is , and they are more than capable of that!!

maybe think of changing the pad material for a HH maybe ? abit more bit wouldnt go amiss would it!!

hope this helps buddy??

Griff!

I will be getting a set from you Griff as soon as funds permit.
Dave C doesn't like making "stickies" whoever asks.

My birthdays coming up and even though I don't really need em I might drop a thousand subtle hints about some Griffsets.

Mine works, for the moment that is. Griff got it working but it's anyone's guess if it will stay that way.

Mine used to work (well a bit) now it struggles big time to even hold the bike for a hill-start.

Dave C doesn't like.

Does that mean Aldo will be excluded shortly, if he passes a negative response to Dave C.

Yer opinion is a bit chicken and egg, is it a lot of work to do as requested??

Await yer reply mucker.

I'm merely making the point that some of the long term high post number members have asked for something to be made a sticky with little or no response.
Don't hold your breath whist waiting for it to happen. I asked to change my name a week ago and have heard nothing so far.

jsdt about to fit mine Griff any idea where the picturews are that somebody posted showing the sequence. do you have to remove the reservoire cap drain & re bleed or is there a straightforward route.
