Surging at low throttle

Hi,
My '08 Factory has an annoying habit when travelling slowly through villages/towns etc at sub 30 mph - when applying small throttle openings it seems to pause before picking up, as though its running too rich or something.

Can be a real pain if cranked over going around a corner too as it unsettles the bike when the power does not come in the moment you expect it too, i.e. there's a small delay where you have no drive, like I say, just annoying more than anything.

No problems when going for it, picks up fine, just the low speed stuff......any ideas anyone?

It has Akrapovics, baffles removed, and dealer tells me he changed the map to suit....anyone else have this problem, spoils a smooth ride, or is it a trait of the vee twin?

I think you'll find it's a V twin thing, mine's the same around town, your holding the clutch to smooth it out.Although I was talking to a guy who says that a 15 t front sprocket really improves the low speed running

the only real answer is a PClll, I found I had the same problem, spoke to dealer and was told they all do this!, not the answer I was looking for!, A sprocket swop helps a lot, keeps the revs up a bit so less clutch needed, But they run so lean at around 3k (bloody emmisions regs!) that a PClll and custom map the only real cure :rolleyes:rolleyes:rolleyes

I dont get this problem since i changed sprockets 15front 42 rear and had map 2 installed feels like it should have come like this from the factory,:thumbup

I had the same issue but after switching to a 15t front sprocket it made a big difference. A bit higher revs on the highway but worth it imo.

I can only ehco what has already been said. Its a bit of a V Twin thing but your brain and therefore right hand adapts. A Power Commander can really help to reduce alot though, especially if you changed pipes.

quite simply guys,,,change front sproket to 15t and change to map2 i did this and i am still running standard exhausts cured the prob

If got the sprockets changed, map 2 etc. I have recently put my baffles back in and the bike seems a lot smoother around town. Doesn't hurt to try....

had exactly the same problem. It does have this behaviour no matter if standard cans or MIVV´s are on. It wasn´t there before the first service inspection was made (600 miles), but after cca 1000 miles it started to be surging.. This is my 4th RSV and never had that problem before. Had a chance to compare it with two of my mates Tuonos and those bikes were running absolutely fine compared to mine.. Don´t know, what to do with it, but its really annoying - specially when you know, that IT WASN´T THERE BEFORE..

went to the dealer ofcourse, but the guys there just told me, that I "hear grass growing", literally said..

c´moan guys :D just didn´t want to make a new thread, so I used the "search" button.. ;)

sorry for that.. :)

Funny though. Some bikes seem to suffer others not. Mines smoothe. As gilo posted on here after hebrode it inline 4 smoothe but when I rode his noticed what he was on about at low revs. Some bmw's are the same. Had a r1200s before this one which did it slightly but not that bad compared to what others were saying. I guess with bikes the fuelling has to be spot on whereas in cars it's a little noticeable as the weight of the car smoothes things out a bit. With bikes being so light any little fuelling issue would be noticed. That's what I kinda think which might be a crock of ***** but I've never had a car which fuels as badly as some bikes

just jestin, twins take some gettin used to, always been an il4 man meself.
they are ***** round town, great for off the lights wheelies though:thumbup

Getting the throttle bodies balanced might help as well !

+1 for that. Mine was running ***** anywhere near 3K and pulling from there felt horrid. Had a tune up from griff and now its smooth and pulls from 2.5Kish no probs (well with a gentle right hand anyway).

MY Tuoldo was lumpy roondaboot 3k, I fitted a 16 tooth sprocket oan and it runs much smoother. I feel the need fir a 44 tooth rear now just to aid front tyre life
