starting problem

had a blast up the cat n fiddle last night. after a few runs up and down, i stopped at the bottom to wait for a mate. when i went to start the bike again, i turned the ignition and the dash was blank. the headlights were on but nothing on the dash. i turned the ignition off and back on and everything lit up this time.

i thumbed the starter button but it wouldn't start. it was turning over but wouldn't fire up. the battery is fine, it was turning over fine, no lack of power from the battery. i tried about three times but still no joy. had it in neutral, side stand was up.

left it for about 30secs and then it started fine so headed straight home. after the ride home i turned it off then started it again with no probs.

is this an early sign of something about to go wrong?

cheers
Dan

sidestand switch or clutch lever switch , trace both back to their respective connectors and clean thoroughly, pack with dielectric grease when putting back together.

yeah thought about that but if it was side stand switch it wouldn't try to start would it? it was turning over but not firing

My 04 factory track bike does it every now and then, same thing, it never fails though to fire up once the clocks come back on, if the clocks do not work it will not fire up, sounds like a clock issue to me, check the plugs at the clocks, mine were trashed in an off and i replaced my clocks with a secondhand set, my bike only started this with the second hand set of clocks.

HTH a bit for peace of mind
