bike seems to be getting worse now, not better...
found loads of badly insulated wires post alarm removal.... insulated them, ,thus stopping earthing..

bike is now turning over and sometimes back firing, others trying to fire but cutting out and sometimes starts fine.
had plugs out yesterday, little black so i replaced them. took main fuel line off at injectors, primed pump and fuel shot out so thats ok, checked the earth connection and thats solid

one more thing i've noticed the exhaust from the front cylinder emits smoke when i turn the engine off!!!!!

is there a way to adjust the co2 to check or do i need the full diagnostic kit, would adjusting it as a measure do any harm?

have i thrown a valve if the exhaust is emitting smoke???

You can't really adjust the co reliably without a gas analyser. To be honest the co won't have a significant effect on starting problems unless things are way out. mark the bypass screw position and report back how far out they are turned if you want a ballpark idea.

Don't take the fact the pump is chucking out fuel as gospel your pump is ok. The pressure value is important and often the pump will work but at reduced pressure. I don't think that is your issue though unless the bike take much longer than 3 secs to prime.

I also can't see it being an earthing wire issue. If you have an earthing wire it would appear at other times not just at startup.

what about the smoke out of one exhaust and not the other???

and can you explain the bypass screw problem please?

i can pick up a pump from fleabay for £75 but wouldn't it also affect normal running of the bike?

i don't think the smoke is anything unusual. If the front cylinder is the last cylinder to fire before you turn it off it will have more exhaust gas in that silencer than the other.

The bypass screws set the Co value for each cylinder. They are on the left side of the T/b's just below the line of the tank bottom when fitted.

If you mark their position and then wind them in then we will know approx the setting. I can't see it personally cos when they are out you will have stalling and rough idle etc.
If you don't mark them you won't know where to set them back to.

If they are much more than about 1 1/2 turns out i would be supicious.

i can be get a low mileage pump for£75 but wouldn't it also problematic when running?
i'll check those screws tomorrow spoonz - cheers pal

on that note sometimes it does make a weird noise when priming

i'll check the screw tomorrow night! but i'm thinking fuel pump

£75 is a lot on a hunch. Most bike shops with have a fuel pressure gauge so ask them to see what the pump generally puts out or try and get a gauge from ebay or something for a few quid.

The fuel pumps when they have problems in general often are worse when hot so it doesn't necessarilly fit into your symptoms.

I took mine the place that Dyno'ed the bike and put it on his pressure guage. I discovered that the fuel filter was partially blocked, after initially thinking the pump was knackered. A new replacement cost me £12 instead of a replacing the whole fuel pump.

When I got the old filter off, I smashed it open and it was totally full of ****.

fuel filter it is then plus 2 little clips to hold it in place, any ideas what will suffice as i've not seen any jubilee clips that small
and those aprilia clips are nasty

strangly enough she started first time this morning twice, once at home, then again at garage 100 yard up the road

can someone recommend a pressure gauge and how do i mount it to the banjo bolt?

ok on way ome from work - bike did the same - took 3 attempts to start..
on way home, think i can smell petrol when i'm at traffic lights.
lifted tank - no signs of petrol leaking.....
HOWEVER the oil pipe from airbox to engine was off at airbox (could of been me from when i changed the plugs...
noticed that the return fuel line might of been getting trapped under the tank so moved that, but still 3 attempts to start.....

so gonna order a new fuel filter

spoonz went on that site and couldn't find a pressure gauge!

look under Aprilia and 2000 or 2003 models.

You might want to ask them if it fits your bike as well.

spoonz i checked the scews you mentioned
front one is 1/4 turn out rear one is 1/8 turn out.......

i'm going to try to put some better clamps on the fuel filter as well, can you recommend any?

not as i kow of, mine is just part of troubleshooting a long term problem
