I've never heard of a starter motor failure on an RSV engine before so chances are it's not the starter motor unless you've done something when you've removed it. As in many many post on this forum, if the bike will not start or the solenoid is clicking when the starter button is pressed, 99% of the time it will be the battery / starter solenoid which is at fault. You say you've checked the battery, just because it's giving more than 12 volts it doesn't mean the battery is ok. Is it kept on an Optimate IV charger? If not you need to get one. I would change the battery for a YTX14-BS and get an uprated start solenoid anyhow, as chances are it's passed it's best anyhow.

What little black box have you replaced :dunno Tip over sernsor?

also what is the solinoid relay upgrade u can get for it dont supose u know wot its off or how i can get 1

there a 2 lil black fuse type boxes with 12v on them(if u looking from th back of the bike then they on the left hand side at the back of the ecu) the bloke at the bike shop said it could well be tht seems the relay solinoid was still clicking

Anything done by D&K i would certainly question, however there isn't anything else i can offer other than it's the battery. The uprated solenoid is a Yamaha one, part number 4KD81940-00 about £30 from any Yamaha dealer and is a direct replacement

To check the solenoid, ignition on, then bridge the two solenoid terminals carefully with a screwdriver. If the engine turns over it's the solenoid that's at fault. If it still clicks it's the battery.

Still not sure why you replaced the "little black box though" :dunno

a up m8 i replaced that black box because the bloke said it was a common problem on em but it but it was still clickning but i told a bike mechanic exactly wot i had done and whats wrong he said me starter fu**ed so i took it off and tested it but didnt spin at all so its the god damn starter thanks for your help though m8

If I were you I would leave the starter motor in place and bridge the connections on the back of the starter relay like LEGS said and see if the engine turns over if it does its the relay.

Also have you checked all your fuses?

Good Luck :thumbup

i bridged the connections but still didnt start my starter must of been on its way out as now the starter wont spin at all wen earthed and touched the red then doin nothing not spinningalso does the cog on the end of starter shoot out to touch the start gear or flywheel because my starter was spinning but wasnt doing anything isnt me battery or the relay solinoid or sprag clutch as i have been told by other friends but i think the starter was on its way out then wen i tapped to fix maybe tapped to hard lol well not on the wallet im havin it re conditioned for around 55-80 is tht ok???

Don't suppose anyone can tell me what model and year this solenoid comes from?

I can get the part locally for £40, but I thought I'd see if I can get it cheaper on fleabay. Need to know what bike it's for, though.
