Starter solenoid and r&r....

Guys, can anyone tell me if the standard starter solenoid on the '06 factory is sufficient or would it be best to replace with an upgraded one from Griff??

Also, I've removed the brown connector at the r&r but did notice that after the bike was running for about 5-10 mins while I was warming the oil to empty it, the r&r got really pretty hot!! Is this normal, do they get that hot (it was really hot to touch, so much so I couldn't hold my hand to it!!) Could this be because it was stationary???

Ta all

it's normal, they are ****** shunt type rr's. try a mosfet one, WAY less heat, much better battery charging! :) as for the solenoid... my 2000 street mille has the original, 50 A one. i've had the bike since it had 16.000 kms three years ago, it has 88.000 now, haven't had a single problem with it. i've had a new yamaha r1 one under the saddle for a year now, just in case :) i recommend a fh016 mosfet regulator, the best there is that i know of! i've got 126w of power on my lights (i run 3 4300k bixenon projector lens on my headlight), 0.5/1w on my tail light (led) and led signals (with a led relay so the consumption is 1w). plus 70w heated seats (35w/saddle), 48w heated grips and 70w heated vest (35x2) and the phone/gps charger plus a headphone amplifier (5-10w) and a small audio system of 30w, 20w rms. hasn't missed a beat on long journeys. before that, with my old rr, my voltage readings would drop (i also have a separate voltmeter) to about 12.10 after about 70 kms. i had to shut everything off just to keep the damn thing charging. this was on a 12 ah exide battery. never missed a beat in the city aswell, using the heated grips, heated saddles, the small headphone ampifier (yes, i'm an audiophile but that's another discussion) and the headlights on (126w, it's mandatory to ride with your headlight on in romania all the time).

in the meantime i've also added two(!!!) shorai LFX36L3-BS12 batteries in parallel, giving me 72 ah capacity and 540 CCA. talk about starting a small diesel locomotive LOL! now i can charge my laptop in the middle of nowhere, use a small inverter for the tent heating (i do go out in the winter) and various stuff. and yes, i'm a little weird for putting all of this stuff on a sbk but i really like my 'prillers. i also take the road one on forest roads :)))

Thanks very much stress! I'll try find a mosfet r + r this week. Cheers!

thought the mosfetsdidn't have an earth or summat? have a chat wih Joe90 on aprilia.me he's tries every concoction going :D also the solonoids were the uprated from 06 so you'll befine :thumbup

Cheers deacs, yeah been reading about the earth thing but have also read a thread on af1 about caponords having fitted an R1 fh series without problems. I am bidding on an R1 MOSFET one at the moment but will need to look into this earth thing!!!
