Tonight I decided to put on my new and improved starter solenoid from Wemoto. It has 2 wires, blue/white, red /white going into a white connector. The old one on my bike has these too but also it has 2 black wires coming from the main wiring harness connected into each of the red/blue wires. All I can think of is that it is to do with the Meta Alarm.

Now I don't want my alarm on my bike, it drains my battery and lets face it who pays any attention to an alarm these days anyway?

What would happen if I just put my new starter solenoid on and plugged it in to the white connector and didn't connect the 2 black wires to anything? I'm just presuming that these black wires belong to the alarm. Has anyone else got these black wires connected too?

Can I add that I bought the bike on Saturday and this butchery was not my doing. Was not impressed when I saw this.

Looks like it was part of the immobilising wiring at a guess........trace the 2 black wires back to their source....
If you just plug your new solenoid in it shoukd be ok as long as the alarm is not also wired to the starter motor........ I would recommend you uninstall the whole alarm properly as the electrics on these aprilias are dodgy enough without the extra bodges built in!!

Well all the wiring for the alarm is in the main wiring loom, so it would mean unpeeling all the insulation tape and cutting it out out I would guess. **** like that makes me nervous. Alarms & immobilisers make me nervous, hate the things. Had an immobiliser on my zx6r and one day it just switched itself on. Had been off for years. Couldn't start the bike.

Yep if you know nothing about electrics thay are a real big pain in the ***.........if you are not ofey with automotive electrics I would take it to an auto electrician as you could make it worse if you do not remove the alarm system properly..........

The red wire with the white tracer has been spliced into.

You'll need to disconnect the 2 black wires and reconnect the red/white wires to each other.

Does that make sense?

I have a brand new solenoid to put on. Just want to disconnect the two black wires but worries about what they are and what they might be connected to inside the wiring loom. Hopefully nothing.

my mate disconected his imobiliser off an old fireblade he bought caused alll sorts of problems he had to take it to a bike tech a couple of times to get it all sorted out

They will be part of the immobiliser wiring, the red/white wire has been cut and has to through the immobiliser, then back to the solenoid again.

You could reconnect the red/white wires to each other as the original loom and try it, if it doesn't work then reconnect the black wires.

You will need to trace all wires from the immobiliser and remove and rejoin as necessary if you want rid of it altogether.

if it was me i would put in the new solenoid with the wiring the way it was , if it works then all good if not then gon to an auto spark but if al you r doing is swapping solenoid for solenoid then there is no reason it wont work

Well I bought an uprated Motobatt battery MBTX12-U. Charged the old one up too. Put the uprated starter solenoid on an crossed my fingers. She turned over, so tried a little Fast Idle but she was playing hard to get. So full throttle, hit the starter for what seemed like forever but was about 10-15 secs. She coughed a few times then burst into life. Warmed her up well. went to her the next day and it had been a cold night and she started straight away with a little fast idle. Didn't like starting her on full throttle on, doesn't seem right but it was my only option. Spent all yesterday riding with a grin from ear to ear. Cold as anything but it doesn't matter. Next - soldering the three wires and chopping the brown connector. The adventure continues. :doug

P.S. Tried the new solenoid first, since she started I chopped the 2 black wires and everything works fine, alarm and immobiliser. So whatever those 2 black wires were connected to is obviously not on the bike anymore.

where did u get ur solinoid from? how much, staright swap? apart from the unusual wires...and do u have a part no so i can buy one, my mille starts okay day to day but if its caught in the rain or left in the cold for long periods it can be a tw@t

p.s soz its prob in the search somewhere but as theres so much info on this site its hard to find the right thread

is that just a original part? thought there was a upreated one you could use to? could be wrong, but the batt is a def buy

If you are leaving your bike for a few days then you need to get an optimiser. Mine is in a garage and I still flattened the battery.
