I got the bike out as i had the day off and the weather was as good as its going to get. I took the chance to fit my new hooked air kit and give her a clean. After all this i started her up and off i went for a ten minute blast around my town, i popped in to see a mate and switched her off. He wanted to hear the sound of the new kit so i attempted to start the bike but the starter died as if the battery were flat. Tried bumping her but second and third just locked up the back wheel. It is now on charge at his work and i will hopfully be able to start her tommorrow, but i am conserned that there is something wrong. could it be some kind of seizing as everything else works and the bike started fine the first time, a ten minute blast should charge the battery.:dunno

10 mins will not charge the battery trust me I had the same thing happen to me today all that 10mins will do is go someway towards replaceing wot was lost when you started it the first time think about getting a new battery and a optimate and get used to starting your bike with the lights off as this will cut down on the drain.:)

Had this on mine the other week, popped out to get some fuel. Got back on after filling up and it felt like there wasn't enough guts to spin it over. Tried once more and it was fine. Mine has a nearly new Varta funstart battery and Yamaha solenoid and always starts fine from cold. I can only assume that sometimes the engine stops against compression and there hasn't been time for it to leak away so it's trying to turn over an almost 'solid' motor. Anyone else experienced this?

I had a problem about a month ago where the starter would turn once and not have enough power to get the bike going. I bought a new battery and it was fine for about two days and then the same thing happened again. Took it to the legend that is Ian at Moto Forza Italia at silvestone and the problem ended up being a corroded earth connection. Not enough power was getting back round to the battery to charge it.

Quite a clean bike aswell i never would have thought of it myself, Cleaned up the connection to the engine and never had the same problem again! Spent 50 quid on a battery that i never needed but you live and you learn :thumbup

Dean, can you explain or post a picture up of where this particular earth connection is that was corroded. It may help others in a similar situation

I'll give it a go mate, gotta take the fairings off to get a picture so will post it in the morning. A good way to give it a try is to make sure you've got enough charge in the battery and if it has and your bike still doesnt want to turn over, get a jump lead (preferably a good thick car one) attach it to the negative side of the battery and attach the other end to anywhere you can on the engine then give it another go. Saves you from taking the bike apart for a problem that might not exist! On the 04+ models the connection is on the rear cylinder casing just behind the bloody frame. Had to cut an allen key in half to get behind it to take it off without having to lift the whole bloody engine out! Thats how the geeza at moto forza found out it was the problem.

Or you could do what I did and make up an extra earth line. I ran it from the battery earth to a handy point on the frame.
