Starter Motor Removal

I'm interested in what the solution is, mine just started doing this this morning. I go out to the bike, the kill switch was on, I tried started it w/the kill on...realized it was on and released it, the fuel pump primed but when i hit the starter nothing happened. Just a bit of a whine every time I hit the starter button, maybe the injectors shooting fuel, but no cranking whatsoever. The battery is new and should be more or less fully charged. If it needs a jump I'll usually get at least a little crank out of it or the lights will go dim. Kinda pissed, this is the first time this has happened.

I still have the issue... Never heard back from Kiwi - guess I scared him off :)

Not scared me off.....Im 6 foot tall and 18 stone, takes a fook load to scare me usually its the other way round !!

Okay so it could be the sidestand switch , but I would check the solenoid first (just in case as the symptoms are similar but maybe not the same issue).

If you have a pretty meaty screwdriver, bridge across the 2 big bolts on the solenoid and see what happens (there will be sparks)

And you forgot to mention from Essex :)

Mate - managed to get into the garage again tonight and have finally resolved my issue. From what I can tell, I had a combination of corrosion on the starter motor connection point and the washer/nut holding the cable on, AND the cable end appears to have been earthing itself on the actual starter motor. Swapped out the washer/nut, used an another washer to act as a spacer and bent the cable connection a little. Finally sorted. Thanks for all your suggestions though - still love the idea that I can discuss issues with someone on the other side of the planet :)

Good luck Mr Chow..

ssssssssssssssh , I'm not a single mum on benefits - honest

LOL! Something to aspire to then!

Kiwi - another quick question... When you turn on your ignition, where does your tacho needle sweep to? I'm sure mine used to sweep to the 9 o'clock position (6000rpm), but it is only going to 5500rpm now... Or maybe I'm mistaken after all.
On another note - are you a south sea Pom originally ?

6000 , however the needles are only pressed on and have been known to slip !

Never a POM mate ...thats the big country next door with all them biting and stinging things (and that's just the sheila's in Sydney)

You mean the 'West Island' :)

I'm a Brit originally, but moved to Oz when I was 7. Been here 33 years, but no one let's me forget - still got an accent. But after the success of the Games, happy to be a 'whingeing Pom' :)

Thanks for your help again
