Sometimes have trouble starting the mille, (2003 old shape)

i have checked the battery (12.7V) and the dash says 11.9ish) i keep the bike on a oxford solar charger/optimizer.

When it does not work i press the button and i can hear a noise (bit like when u turn the key but not the same sound) bit like fuel beimg injected but no start, not even trying.

to get it to work i press the kill switch few times turn the bike on and off few times till the bike starts.

Has anyone else had similar issues??

RSV's can suffer from faulty kill switches due to corrosion especially if they've been kept outside. Try squirting some WD40 in to switch and press the red button a few times. If this doesn't cure it then a new switch may be in order.

You should hear a whiring noise when you first turn the ignition key. This is the fuel pump priming correctly. If your battery is fully charged and your starter solenoid is good then i would have a longer look at your kill switch

I have an 03 mod ihad the same problem put new kill switch on and its fine now

Best to get some of that DC4 electrical grease and pack out your switchgear if you're going to leave outdoors or ride all year round.

When I first got my 03 RSV I have the same problem. Without seeing/hearing the bike it is impossible to know for sure but I would suspect it is the switch and it is a relatively easy thing to replace.

Cool, by the sound of the replys im gonna take the switch off this weekend and see if i can clean the contacts up/beef up the solder etc before i buy a new switch.

funny that mick i've got the same problemo with my Diversion at the moment.
Mine is with the STARTER SWITCH...
tried wd40 in it etc etc...but the bike lives outside in all weathers so can be expected i suppose.:dunno

I have by-passed the switch temporarilly with a connecter block on the left headstock and start it with a tiny bit of wire attached to one of my gloves.:biggrin

Saves me keep bump starting it anyway.

I would NOT reccomend you do this to any RSV tho.:biggrin LMAO.

well this weekend i took the switch off and sprayed wd40 into as much of the switch as i could.

il have to see if this solves the problem.

only time will tell.

right, last night i took the starter button out, this is the problem, and its not so much corotion more just the switch is flexed/poorly made (maybe i was unlucky when it was made)

All i need is the push button switch itself, i have made it work by adding more solder inside creating a better contact but a new botton will put my mind at ease.......dont really want it cutting out at high speed.

The button itseld has no aprilia logo on it making me think it may be able to be bought seperate.

Has anyone bought just the switch before?
