Big thanks to Tash for getting me a Renthal chain and sprockets, 15 front 42 back, good price and boy it makes the twistys interesting!

i hated my 15f, got a new kit with 17/40, way better. i think it depends on what power your bike makes. mine has enough :)

I went down one tooth on the front, and that definitely made it a better bike for the road. :)

Im 16f, left me with a massive wheel base :/
Just about to slap a 44r on, so we`ll see :)

By fitting a 44 you mean? Yeh should do. std chain length, and hence adjustment is for a 17f 42r. I changed the front to a 16 which puts the chain adjusters almost right to the back (they say) 1 on the front is worth 3 on the back, so by adding two on the back I should lose at least most of the length I gain, plus a bit more punch (thats the plan anyways..)

sorry but IMHO it does not shorten the weelbase significantly at all. the 44 vs 46 sprocket is just a few milimeters in diameter size so if you divide it by 2 you get a milimeter or two on the rear axle. that is the same 2 milimeters you get when you buy a new chain and the very same 3 milimeters you lose by chain wearing.

1 tooth on front does not count as 3 on the back http://www.gearingcommander.com/ just to be correct

That's what I suspected but let us know if reality is different from theory Steve.

Rob :)

oooOOOoo. OK put the trumpet down lol. Maybe my chains just fooked then! :D
Pretty sure i had to take alot of slack out the chain when I changed the front though, so it will make some difference. A small difference in wheelbase plus the small increase in acceleration SHOULD i`m hope produce a positive noticeable effect overall.

But yes Rob
I shall let you know ;)

On my 02 mille -1F and +2R was superb with the std 108 link, it only just fit.. So a very short wheelbase indeed , brilliant!
Funnily enough i have shortened the gearing the same am
ount on the V4, but its soo short out of the box I plumped for the +2 on the chain so a 110 link red afam it is,
I actually use 4th and 5 th gear! And No headbutting the clocks in first three gears lol
All Aprilias are geared too long for fast road and track imo
