Slow starting

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has had experience of slow starting with RSV. Seems to be fine without any fast idle, but put it on full and it really struggles to the point of the dash going off it draws that much power. Half on and it struggles a bit too. Any advice please?

Cheers,
Andy

New battery, 150 amp starter relay and add another earth lead. She will fire no worries. Read all the bad starter threads on this site and they all basically cover these three.

As RSV 69, said as long as you have these 3 mod you should be ok i've got these 14 amp battery, + yellow wire mod, bike been in the garage for 7 day and starts straight away on the button

my 02 was always fine on an optimate, never bothered with uprated batt or wire mods, obvioulsy others peoples MMV
ck

Hi Andy,
My 2001 is the same, i have the mods and a good battery and an optimate but you would swear blind it was going to stop at TDC on that first turn but it never does and always burst into life before the starter gets to a second revouloution, but it makes your heart skip every time, i think it is just a combination of being cold and high compression as when warm it spins over like there is no tomorrow on the odd occasion i have had the kill switch on .

It's actually got a Motobatt 220cca on it, plus a 150 starter and the plus mod done. Reads 14v on the dash before starting yet still does it. I'll swear it's the F%@king Meta 357T Alarm as it has started turning over faster since I broke that yesterday (Pulled a fuse and now it doesn't work, just the immobiliser works)

Just saving for a trip to the Griffmeister

Mine is exactly the same with the slow starting too chaps with all mods done ........
Motobatt with 200cca
Uprated solenoid 150amp
Extra earth strap
All wiring mods done
As smith-colin said mine does exactly the same ........that 1st initial press off the starter button it sounds like a flat battery as the motor starts to spin over very slowly then after the first piston goes past its compression stroke the starter motor picks up speed and she bursts into life every time without hesitation....
This is always from a cold engine start ......when warm it never does this so me too thinks cold motor possibly means tight bores

Right just to revive this thread, it was the sprag in the end... don't ask me why or how... it started like crap, then it started making the kick back noises, the sprag spring had gone slack... it starts like an inline four now that's been done though

My sprag was F#ck got it sorted and now sound.Just been away for a week so bike hasn't been started for about 10 days and fired up first time GOOD AS GOLD.

Mine does the same with all the mods and decent battery.
No dodgy sprag noises though so I will just live with it.

Just as a point if note the more throttle or fast idle you apply will increase the compression making it harder to start and also putting sprag clutch under increased load

New battery is a must then as little fast idle as you can get away with I put it less than quarter on normally

Think you might mean vaccum as you can't change compression without engine work.

Either way the vaccum would be greater with no fast idle would it not? My logic on that is because the butterfly is closed with no fast idle, but open slightly with with fast idle applied.

Can someone link me the mods thread for solving the slow start issue as I have this problem and its a big issue for me. Thanks
