Sun still shining here, so out with the bike this morning and enjoyed the hours ride to work.

Bought some new 2 piece leathers at Excel, and very comfy but bum is so slippery on the seat i was going everywhere!

Anyone know of a quick way to get grip without buggering up the leather, don't fancy sandpapering!

I went fron de regeur urban cammo Draggin Jeans to leather and I cannot believe how slippy the seat is now ... I much preferred the jeans but Bay kept telling me they made me look gay!

Errmmm made you look !!!:yes:yes

I'm just thinking of protection for you and your welfare on and off the bike. PS Leathers don't make you look any different and I never said they made you look gay just silly.

If you want textiles though I'm all up for the full cammo effect though. Boots, socks, trousers, t shirt, gloves, jacket and helmet. That would look mega cool and I think you should do it. If you wanted to look particularly cool you could even get your bike painted to match your clothes.

PS u could then follow your Lucy about on any dates she has with those nasty young fella's and wouldn't be seen.

I wonder if they do a silent running exhaust for the Tuono. STEALTH NEWELLY could be your new name. Now thats catchy. Wicked, you could really pull it off as well

Wes, this may be of some use or not. I always buy leather soled shoes, they tend to be a bit slippery when new any way ma dad gave me a bit of advise regarding leather, he reckoned that if you cut a potato in half and rubbed the cut part into the leather it would greatly reduce it's slippery qualities.

I've never tried it but thought I'd pass you the info. Let me know how you get on if you try it.

Googling the issue comes up with some suggestions for leather chairs and saddles and recommends using a rubbing alcohol and water mixture.

The problem seems to be the amount of wax that is applied at the dressing of the leather, and the solution removes the wax.
Apparently some windscreen deicers contain isopropanol which is the same stuff, so will try that or maybe some clutch and brake cleaner...pretty much anything to break down the wax.

In all seriousness it's a bit of an odd one though isn't it. After all they do sell products to keep your leathers in good Nic and that's polish or wax or Summat similar. Never had a problem on any bike seat I've had but my leathers are 3 years old now. Don't think I ever did though

I have found a similar problem but going FROM leathers to textile ... not had a problem with the leather jeans on the T seat (but they're 4 years old), but as soon as I switched to textiles I'm all over the place on the seat ... the T seat does appear to be particularly slippery

This is clearly a question for a tribologist

Firstly we must consider the relationship between force (N) and weight (W) which in a static body are essentially the same and acting in opposite directions.

Similarly, at the point of impending motion the applied force (P) is equal to the opposing (frictional) lateral force (F).

A heavier object (greater W = correspondingly greater N) will, quite obviously, take a greater amount of force (P) to overcome the opposing frictional force (F) acting against it.

Therefore, the greater the weight of the object, the greater to effort required to overcome the static friction. (irrespective of the type of material although the difference in coefficient of friction of leather and deregeur urban cammo should really be considered at this point)

Bay says he has never had an issue with leather ... i.e. when wearing leather he does not "slip"

So gentlemen ...

At this point we could consider kenetic friction but let's pause there, review the facts and draw a conclusion.

Bay is a fat ****** so doesn't slip.

Oh I'm hurt now and I'm going to cry cos uve hurt my feelings. I thought I was just on the chunky side. At least undone wear cammo though ;)

"At least undone wear cammo though" ...

Too early for snifters surely??:cheers:cheers

Another angle - I prefer to be able to move around the seat easily, not that I hang off that much, so quite like a slippery seat /leathers.

I've used Stompgrip on my bikes for a fair few years now and wouldn't ride without it. It lets you lock on to the tank with your knees when you want to (under braking etc) and overcomes any slippery arse problems.

Just a thought like..

It's the iPhone and predictive text 'stealth newelly'. It's was obviously thinking when I was typing 'cammo trousers' they're best left undone and thrown in the bin ;)

so consider yoursen a driver of fashion.

Are they still calling u though. Come to cammo newelly come to cammo

(because of you) I only wear cammo if I am going out to shoot foxes. Gone are the dereguer urban ride outs. Now I wear leathers with knee sliders and am presented with the question "how the **** do I get them on the deck"?

I've found throwing your bike down the road on new tyres is a pretty effective way of getting your knee down.

im off for some new tyres today gilo, dont think i will be using your tried and tested method though

Warmer weather pinny ull be fine. I can highly recommend pilot road 3's for grip. Can't spend enough on good Tyres I say. Only need to get your knee down on track days. It's illegal on roads and doesn't make u any faster. Looks good on Moro gp but look at the speeds they're going.

Even rossi was slow riding around the isle of mann and said the guys must be mad found the speeds they do around there. Best bet is to get the angle grinder out.

In fact how many people donget their knees down whilst out on a fairly brisk road ride
