Slipper Clutches...?

Hey guys,

I thought I would consult the fountain of knowledge on this one. So, i understand the aprilia rsvr has a slipper clutch as standard. From what i can gather, this reduces the chances of the rear tyre locking up when closing the throttle off fast, is this right? If so, does the standard rsv have one? If not, can the rsvr unit be retrofitted to the rsv?

Thanks in advance,

Anton

All RSV Mille and newer shape RSVR have a form of "slipper clutch" fitted as standard. It operates on a closed throttle via inlet manifold vacuum. The only time it will operate is when going down the gearbox and the throttle is closed. For those who blip the throttle on down changes it will not stop any any rear wheel lockups

Correct me if Im wrong, but as far as I know 98-2000 model doesnt have it, only the R version.

Any proof ?

I would be more than happy to hear this is correct.

Becaus what I heard (dont know from where) the first with the slipper was 2000 R model, from 01+ all of them have it.

Will check today if mine has it :D

I did some reading on the internet it suppose to work only without gas. What does that mean? Can you still blip the throttle, turn off the gas and then let go of the clutch and it will work?

As its vacuum operated it will NOT work if you blip the throttle, it will only work on a closed throttle.
You will also be best to check to make sure the one way valve still works, many have failed by now.

In how do I check this if it goes one way?

Because I was racing a few days ago and had a few rear wheel locks at 150kmh+ and it was quite interesting, so started looking for something that slips :), having something stock would be... a start :D

What colour are the one way valves? I have found something that is red ? but i thought they are white?

mine is red, you can see it in this picture

i can't stand a dirty engine. i always keep mine clean so that any leaks can be spotted easily and dealt with immediately. that had only just been apart for the 9000 mile service. not bad for a W reg 2000 model eh?
