As a relative newbie please forgive the waffle!
I recently bought an RSV (April 09) after hacking around on a 1999 Triumph Daytona which was a great workhorse and never let me down. Having done many sessions at the Nurburgring on the Triumph (whilst living in Belgium) I decided to take to the track with the RSV - what a bike! I could not believe how easy it is to chuck around and how composed it is when cornering. I'm by no means a good or experienced rider but even I could tell the difference between the RSV and the old Daytona, the RSV is great!
I had originally wanted to get the 675 Daytona but figured I was not good enough to make it go fast and hence needed the grunt of a bigger bike, clearly a good choice with no regrets.
Anyway, please find below a couple of photos from our day at Silverstone and there are a couple of YouTube videos if you're really bored.

Cheers

Hey up fella, welcome to the zone. Your piccies haven't worked mate.

I'll try the vids later when I get home. Always nice to see piccies of the rsv.

I know where your coming from with the daytona. I had an 01 955i which I did everything on all year round. Great workhorse and sounded lovely. Front brakes were always going spongy though?

I had a 99 daytona before, only mine wasn't so reliable. But when it was working it was absolutly brilliant. It currently resides in my back garden in lots of little pieces.

The sound of the 955 triple with triumph race exhaust is second only to the midrange bark of a mille with hooked airbox IMHO.

Great looking pictures! For someone who says they re not very good or experienced, you certainly look like you re giving it some stick! :)

Not sure why the photos haven't come out, clearly the amateur in me is showing - I'll have to give it another go.
Good to see that I am not the only one having tried the Daytona, I was very lucky with mine, bought it as a toy but then it became a commuter whilst in Belgium. It had to sit outside everyday for two years in the sun, snow, rain and sleet, and with only regular cleaning at the weekends did not age at all, and never let me down. Have to agree with the noise, I had the Triumph race can and it sounded fantastic, especially when you 'pull the pin'!

If these don't come out this time I have also tried to stick some photos in a gallery - which might just work!

Hello newbee here, quick question what tyres u using ox
Hi Shazam
I have Metzeler Rennsports - I believe they were the original spec tyres and that was what was fitted when I bought the bike.
Not sure how long they will last (I'm happy to get 3000 miles to a rear) but they seem to grip well, no hint of letting go even when cranked all the way over.
There are absolutely no chicken strips on the rear or the fronts (I have never managed to get the front tyres all the way over), shows how easy it is to carry lots of speed into a corner whilst still on the brakes.
Highly recommended - hope this helps.
Cheers

Hi Ox welcome to the zone m8 .. awesome pics and vids .. what camera setup was you using ?

Nice camera work...very clear and picks up sound very well...even the bike in front of you!!

Glad you like the pics and videos, I'm using a DogCamSport 520 Bullet camera with a Zorst high gain mic (the original one just distorted all the noise), the camera is then plugged into a JVC MiniDV camcorder that has a video in socket. The Camera is mounted to a suction cup bracket on the tank (I can also mount on my helmet or anywhere else come to think of it) and the camcorder is stuffed under the seat cowl, with some padding.
If it would help I can try and take some photos of the set up both on the off the bike. Movies are then imported onto my Mac and using iMovie (comes free as part of iLife) I can export the video.
Thanks for the comments.

Piccies look ace mate. I've used metzler racetecs on trackdays and the road and they are pretty awesome.

I've never ridden silverstone but consider it every year. Did you do the full gp circuit? If so what's it like on the ape with the long straights?

Update
I've just watched your vid and see it wasn't the gp circuit. Awesome footage quality there. Nice to see other apes on track.

I've used Racetecs on my Daytona, great when its dry but useless in the wet, also tried the M3's on the Daytona, they are a good compromise for road use.
I think we did the International Circuit at Silverstone, not quite as long as the GP circuit with shorter straights (thank god, don't want to go too fast). As you can see from the videos, being mechanically sympathetic I generally short shift and use the grunt of the motor to drag me out of the corners.
I would recommend Silvetrstone to anyone, nice wide circuit and great facilities - I shall be certainly going back this year and also trying Cadwell (if I'm feeling brave!).
Thanks for the comments.

Cheers John, need to change mine this year & hopefully a few track days, very nice ride at silverstone you look very good! Shane

I agree mate, it's much better using the v twins drive than thrashing it's tits off. Not what v twins are about really. I ride mine pretty much the same. The only time I've ever seen the shift light flash was when I did some top speed runs down the runway at bruntingthorpe last sept.

I think I'll try an evening session at silverstone first. I like rockingham and it's suited to the twin. I reckon those long back straights would cause us rsv riders some problems with il4's on track.

Hi Spud
Good to see I'm not the only one intent on thrashing their bike to within an inch of it's life (although I keep toying with the idea of buying a little 400 to exactly that!), it's too nice to abuse. As a road bike it is great, although I might swap to a Tuono sprocket and chain when it needs replacing, just to reduce the gearing slightly.
With regards Silverstone, it really is an easy circuit to try, although I have only been around Castle Combe before which is really boring and not worth the effort, so I'm not really too experienced to be giving advice.
I have done lots of weekends at the Nurburgring on the old Daytona, staying at the Burgstube which I would highly recommend if anyone is going. We lived in Belgium (Mons) for 2 years which was just over 2 hours away so it was really convenient, although a scary circuit to get used too. I have lost count of how many laps I've done but it still scares the hell out of me! I'm determined to get back there this year so if anyone is interested it might be worth going down on mass.
Cheers

Yes they do mate, they'll even pull the fun side of 170mph but the time taken to get there is longer than a modern IL4 so you get swamped on the straights. Silverstone has some very long straights as well. On a short circuit it's no problem as the 4's don't get to use their top end power advantage.
