Sidestand woes

S

SPOOKY

Just to give you guys a heads up. I fitted a bubseywoo sidestand well over a year ago and thought it was the dogs bollox until now. I was over at the Northwest 200 when this happened.

I was very lucky as the stand snapped as I was crouched down on the same side so the bike fell on to me and my rucksack so only minimal damage. Another 30 seconds I would have been slightly more pissed off. It was interesting strapping the bike to a post on the ferry back though. Does anybody have a definitve answer with regards to best replacement as I now need peace of mind. 1, Original Aprilia, this one's out as a sparrow farting would knock the bike over. 2, replacement by Bubseywoo, not sure if I'd trust another, also I've noticed a few zone members having difficulty in getting their problems sorted (BB1000) 3, The oem american stand, has anybody done this themselves and does it work? 4, Suzuki 1000 stand, which model would I need and if Mr Spoonz gets to read this are you still willing to do the conversion work it needs?
But most of all lads, anybody who has one of these stands please check them on a regular basis as I wouldn't like to see anything happen to your pride and joy, you may not be as lucky as I was.

Cheers SPOOKY :ghostface

All oem big bike stands = cast head.

Not because they like casting but beacuse welding fatigues in a bit under such repeated stress amd movement unless you over engineer it.

If it were me i would get a US stand or modify another make of oem stand to fit.

Yes conversion i can do if i get my welder back (lent it out) Gsxr 600/750/1000 pre k4 from memory but not old oil cooled nudger.

Bloody hell Spoonz that was a quick reply. Let me know if and when you get your welding plant back M8 as I think that option might be the best.

As discussed on the phone Kev.

The Gsxr1000 K1 leg will bolt straight on apparently, and If i can get a decent Ebay seller that doesnt charge 19 quid postage for the CBR1000rr sidestand then I would try that.

If we need to start welding cutting and drilling then its gonna be a pain in the arse.

The US spec sidestands need the fixing plate aswell as they are not the same as the EU ones apparently.

Tim

ps Kev couldnt you just go to a local welders for him to do the busbeypoo properly.

the U bracket should be cast or made form 1 peice of metal, not 3 small bits of monkey metal

Another option is to cut the OE stand U bracket off and weld that onto the Bubseycrap one

I rest my case with these stands.

After reading many posts and looking at pictures of the bubseewoo stand fitted i saw signs of what i thought to be poor welding so decided to stay well clear, looking at the pictures above im glad i did!

Its probabley cheap materials thats been welded on a fixture thats not up to the job resulting in a lack of consistancy.

You can bet there are no tests carried out on these stands either so could fracture at anytime.

All of you that have one check them :thumbup

Ooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhshit (sound of running outside to garage)

Ah ******* hell, I have one of these on my bike and I am sure it is stretching. Mine is the new version by the way. For ***** sake avoid this until someone has a bike that can stand up after 1 year

Oh sh*t! I've had one of these stands about a year now. Something else to check regularly. I guess I'll get a Suzuki one.

So, would Bubseywoo care to comment?
I've had one on my bike for a couple of months and would be seriously pi55ed off if it failed.
"Fit for purpose" would come into it I reckon.

To everyone,

What can I say...not alot really except please take this as a huge apology for the stands that have failed & I also know others will be worrying as well.

I do have a disclaimer on the instructions BUT I'm not one to shirk away.
For those of you that never had a replacement it wasn't done to piss you off it was a genuine oversight.

HISTORY:
I originally made the sidestand for myself but so many peeps wanted one wot could I do ! The first generation had welding problems & I offered replacement..the newer stands were welded at a different shop & the shaft was soild instead of cheap tubular crap ( not what I asked for ).

Now it seems the welding is causing problems on a few stands out of over 300 sold in the last year.

As soon as I recieve any feedback I act upon it...this costs me money but that is my look out ! I have now redesigned the stand again & I agree with the comments so the top of the stand is now being constructed out of one piece of metal instead of welding 3 pieces together.

I didn't realise this could be done until I presented the workshop with a broken stand !

If anyone would like a replacement please let me know your circumstances and email me :[email protected]

Thankyou to all those that have supported me SO FAR ! I'm doing my best I know for some it ain't good enough but wot more can I do ...don't answer that I might need a shovel !!!!

Anyways I don't get on the forum that often...kids & 3 jobs etc but I'll try & get on more often.

My tel no if anyone wants an argument or a chat about this :07739 156762

Stay safe.
Gary

Its good that you came on and faced up to the problems, got to give you credit for that

But as for a replacement stand, thanks but i have been through the hassle of welding up a new one for myself, so pass on the NEW version to another concerned user if you can

mine arrived from you yesterday Gary. it would be nice to think that you might replace it with one with a 1 piece 'u' piece on the top, even for a nominal postage fee.

I think if you have one of the recent one's it has the one piece top section.

the top piece is definitely made from 3 pieces on mine, the same as the one above that has snapped
