Show and tell

motocafe, if you want to get rid of those unsightly threaded mirror holes, take a look at this:

Then again, they're $20 each, and you did say you were cheap :crazy

Haha, I am cheap when there are cheaper alternatives.:cheers

My point being... Is that safe? I need to cart tools about, prob about 20kg worth. Tank bag has fallen to bits and back pack just sucks.

Er, as V60Paul said 20kg may OTT. I have mostly loaded clothing and such on my rides so...

I could have made stronger mounts but I wanted the convenience of switching out the rack and the single seater (takes only 5 secs) whenever I need to.:cheers

Being practical, I like the top box idea - better if you're leaving the bike with stuff on it. How did you attach the base plate? Is it on a spare (second) seat base? Was it easy to do?

Cheers!

Mike (new to this Tuono thing -2004 Fighter - but just about to go to France!).

Since I have been asked before, let me take the base apart and take snapshots of it. I will post the pics when they are ready.

:cheers

GIVI base plate

OK, I have taken some snapshots of the GIVI base plate. It's quite simple to do, really. I used a 3mm aluminum plate, traced the GIVI base outline and used a hacksaw to cut it out. The rubber dampers are easily obtained from hardware store. The OEM seat latch pin is a bit short so I got somebody to machine a longer one from brass. You can use the OEM pin and a spacer instead.

Paul - were you at Cadwell May 13th this year?

There was a cracking black Tuono there in the fast group.

Aye, that I was, but don't mix me up with Mel (Instructor) - he has an 04 Racing which is rather mint.
Piccies and a bit of footage HERE

What were you on?

FYI I didnt make the session on the 29th - too much work on:bawling

Giles chain adjusters, I didn't think they were available for 03 - 05 Tuonos. Were did you get them or did you have to modify a set.

I think I have put this somewhere here already, but they are a set for an RSVR. I got them cheap because they have stopped making them in the blue or red colours.

The reason that Gilles don't sell the adjusters for the old Tuono's (& milles) is because the channel the adjuster sits in isn't straight - and it wont fit. If you are OK with a bit of old fashioned "fitting" with a file and a dremel type grinder the high spot can be removed from the channel allowing them to fit.

There is also a small redundant boss in the casting at the front of the channel that requires chamfering to match the adjuster.

To be honest I am an addicted tinkerer, so I quite enjoyed sorting it, but given a full price set of Gilles is about £120 it's up to you if you think it's too much hassle

This close up shows the adjusters - the retainers aren't fitted in this shot.
I took this picture to show what happens when a Galfer disc overheats :rolleyes

I was on my '04 black Tuono. :thumbup You wouldn't have noticed me in the oh-so-slow group. In my defence though, I was lapping quicker than an R1 and three CBR600s in my group. :yes :yes :yes :yes

I had a good look at Mel's bike; he was one of the instructors for the group I was in.

He's not a bad lad - needs to put a decent pipe on that Racing though. :lol

I usually circulate with Alan - black gixxer 1000 k7, he mullah's me down the straights but I can eat him on braking for park and the whole twisty section of Cadwell is better suited to the Tuono than a gixxer, so my lap times are pretty much identical. I tend to enter Coppice faster, but the Tuono runs out of puff a bit up the hill, so I tend to lose out a bit exiting charlies 2 onto Park Straight.

Work and weather permitting I shall be going on the 9th Sept, if your there wander across & say Hi.

if you have a friendly machinist, just get him to machine you some mushead screws to fill the redundant mirror holes.
