Some mods done on my '03 Tuono Racing.

GIVI box and base

The GIVI top box idea was frown upon by most of my sportsbike friends when I first mentioned it. Being a practical person, I was not discouraged and went ahead. It turned out better than I expected. Now I have a 33 liter box which I can switch easily (5 secs) with the single seater whenever I need to. If I need larger capacity I can switch to a bigger box. It's real handy when I take long rides. Backpacks used to be the way to go, not anymore.

Wing mirrors

I saw what was done on other Tuonos with round mirrors and thought I could improve on it. Bought a pair of CBR900 mirrors (carbon look) and fabricated an aluminum plate to mount it on. Rear view is decent but not as good as the original mirrors.

Fender eliminator

Not an original idea, but an improvement (I think). Just an aluminum plate cut and drilled, nothing fancy but it works.

Grilles for radiator, airscoops & bellypan

Bought a couple of magazine racks from IKEA. Cut them up to size. Stuck on the radiators. The grilles on the airscoops and bellypan were fixed on with epoxy. Cost of racks - $6.50, epoxy - $4. Yeah, I am cheap.

Camera & GPS mount and helmet lock

On the same plate I fabricated for the wing mirrors, I fashioned 2 brackets to mount the video camera and GPS (not shown). Also installed a power socket for the GPS. A helmet lock was bolted into the handlebar clamp. The handlebar clamp was milled by a friend and was intended to be a mount for the GPS and camera but I ditched the idea after it was made.

Carbon fiber protection for exhaust

This carbon fiber piece of heat protection on the exhaust was made by another friend (what are friends for? :thumbup).

Left hand control switch

This item was sourced from eBay. Straight swop, no hassle - wires were long enough. Now I can switch off the lights when I activate the lap timer. Also, I like the signal switch in the middle and the horn at the bottom. Not used to the horn middle position on the original switch.

Thanks. I'm just a practical guy who can't leave things alone if I think I can improve on it. Was a stockbroker by trade - now retired.

Some Nice looking bits there, but I have a few mods on my 05 to list also.

Bullet camera mounted in the sidelight aperture,

Footage looks like this

R&G's upper & lower frame (and I've used them :banghead) handlebar ends, swing arm cotton reels etc.

Garmin Zumo mounted on the dash

Likewise I have mesh guards over the radiators, and I replaced the gold in the panels with balck

Oh, full race Akra 2+2, Oz forged alloys, recoated black, gilles chain adjusters, Galfer discs, Renthal bars, front sub-frame powder coated black, Evo Airbox+PCIII and custom map, A few carbon bits here and there, MRA spoiler screen.

On more subtle points I have a pro-oiler automatic chain oiler, bike to bike comm's (talk to the wife on her 07 T) Pazzo shorty levers, footpeg hangers and levers coated black, baglux & ventura for the Ero trips, and a few bits beside.

Motocafe - Love the topbox. I am about to do copy you for my 06 T.

But... Is you box held on simply by the two forward locating tabs, and the lock that are on the pillion bracket? err..

Yes. Exactly the same as the pillion seat.

My point being... Is that safe? I need to cart tools about, prob about 20kg worth. Tank bag has fallen to bits and back pack just sucks.

If your doing it on an 06T - Gen II, then the rear seat fixing is different from Motocafe's.
The 06 has the lock at the front, but 20kg, is probably a bit OTT for that arrangement anyway. I use a similar set-up with an Aprilia (strap-on) tank bag attached to an 02 mille seat base, works well, but I wouldn't go over about 5-6kg with it.

Well I need to carry that weight, so I need to sort out some hard fixings straight to the subframe. I am off to have a look at my buds 1200GS, to get some ideas etc. Just weighed my kit... 12kgs:thumbup

My Tuono has been down the road (NOT BY ME) I have just bought it, as my Mille cant cut being used as my everyday tool.

Still hunting spares every one:megaphone

Best suggestion I can offer would be to get a Ventura set up. If you got the "L" bars and their sport rack I reckon you would be sorted.

Last year I went over to France with a bunch of head cases from the Apriliaforum (10 Tuono's) most of which were using the Ventura system with Spada bags, very impressive. Holds a 50+ litre bags on the rear seat with us riding like feckin idiots through the French countryside. Impressed me so much I have bought Ventura systems for both of our T's for the Euro trip in just over 3 weeks.

The Sport rack isn't as bulky, and would take your tool bag no hassle - you could even put the rack on over the seat hump if you wanted.
