Sh***y tyres?

Hi,

Well I've had the RSV for 8 days now and am mega impressed. Today was the first nice day since I bought the steed and decided to give it some large, I'm in love - no more ****** inline fours for me. The way the bike turns into corners is sublime.

Anyways the bike is fitted with Dunlop Sportmax D208RR, when I give it full stick (from roll-on) in say second and third, there seems to be a second delay where the engine revs rise, but no forwards motion. So I'm guessing its the back tyre spinning :biggrin? Does that sound right?

Are my tyres ok or should I upgrade to a better set or is it just the torque I'm not used to.:eek:

Any advise appreciated.

beat me to it lol,
was gunna say slipping clutch.
funnily enough mine did it today,flying along at warp factor,
gave it what was left of the throttle,and got the same as you just said.
so either i got what you think you got or im ready for them clutch plates.
never done it before tho.
am i bovered? no.lol
ill go with your spin up theory as it sounds more impressive dude and will cost me less.
glad your enjoying the mille experience btw.
 
Has your tyre got scorch marks? or is the rubber melting, seriously doubt its spinning in that situation but if it is, respect is due
 
I would have to go with the clutch slip...but just ignore us and go with the spinning the wheel up option,coz it sounds more cool :thumbup
 
Well I was hoping it was wheel spin :doug - I'll check out the tyres later.

It only seems to happen in 2nd and 3rd. Normally clutch slip is more prevalent in higher gears, isn't it? I've tried inducing clutch slip and it just bites like a bast**d?......I'll try again this evening.

as for spinning up, it depends on various conditions such as what surface road you were on, was it wet, were the tyres warm enough

i rode on pirelli diablos (not corsas... just diablos...) and they were terrible too hard and i could never get them warm enough so they just span up every time i used the generous lashings of torque and so did not last very long :dunno still felt a mile ahead of those dunlops though!

i have since switched to michelin pilot powers and they are brilliant, only ever had spin ups in the very wet (and only because they give me confidence to use the throttle lots)

i wouldnt expect it to be clutch slip from roll on, it depends what sort of revs you were doing at the time, there could be any number of explanations, low revs taking a moment to pick up, crappy fuelling, over geared sprockets, wrong type of oil.... the list goes on
 
mines due to previous owner over filling with oil imo,
it was causing the clutch to slip but its loads better now and getting better.
maybe its cleaning the plates?!

Thanks for the replies. Went out with a mate tonight for a quickie of our evening circuit having previously marked a line on the tyre with 'Tipex'.
Perhaps I didn't explain my self too well but by 'roll-on' I meant at about 5k, then nail it in second or third gear.

The conclusions are that whilst he couldn't see the tipex too well (whilst watching from his zx9r) , it would seem to only happen on less grippier surfaces where the rear spins momentarily on opening the throttle. :dunno

I've tried to create some clutch slip by dipping the clutch whilst seriously 'on-it' in 3rd or 4th and it just bites like a *******.

Think i'll get some new rubber when I've saved some pennies

Theres no way that the tyre will be spinning theres to much grip in them dunlop's but those dunlops are pretty damn **** in the fact that the carcass splits at the seams so if i was you i would ditch them tyres as soon as poss and get some others most of the lads go for pirelli corsa III's not heard a bad word against them
