Service intervals?

Hi guys! This is my first post after buying a 2004 factory (on 05 plate) a couple of weeks ago. So far I'm really impressed with the bike and this site - picked up some great tips already. My nearest Aprilia dealer is near Worcester and I nipped up there today to check them out. When I asked about servicing they told me that service intervals are every 4500 miles with a big service due at 16,000 miles. This has confused me as the owners manual and the workshop manual both indicate that service intervals are every 6,250 miles unless the bike is used for racing. I understand that the service indicator on the dash is also set for 6,250 intervals. Am I reading this wrong or do you think the dealer is pulling a fast one?

The service interval for pre 04 bikes was 4500. your manual is correct for post 04 bikes except the valve service interval in the owners manual is wrong.

Now every 12500. Manual states 6250 from memory.

tell the dealer to look at the Tech bulletins as there is one relating to service intervals on later engines. (although they should be doing that anyway)

Colin, i guess you went to Bikersworld at Drakes Broughton who i've used for many years for bits and pieces and they are very good and extremely helpful. Roger is the man to see. Looks like they made an error on your service interval though. As Spoonz says it's every 6250 miles on your bike with a major service at 12500 including valve check

Legs...you assumed correctly. Good to hear some feedback about Bikersworld as it is the nearest dealer for me. Thanks to Spoonz too for his update. The bike had only just done 3,000 miles when I bought it (how can someone only do 1,000 miles a year, I've done nearly that in a fortnight) and has been serviced 3 times already. The service intervals were a factor in choosing the Aprilia as my previous Honda was every 4,000 miles which can be quite expensive if you do a fair mileage.
