Im a bit peed at the minute regarding my mille r , its my first one which i bought from a large well known dealer up here in the north east, anyway bought the bike from them in may this year, 2002 , 2 owner rsv r showing just under 8,000 miles on the clock, with service history.

well , obviously im a few miles over 9000 and odd mile service(its at 10,000 now) which by the book, should have the valve clearances checked.

for the first time i pulled out the service history book and the same person owned it and had it aprilia serviced at regular intervals until he sold it some time in 2008

looking at the history the bike it had done nearly 6000 miles in 2006, and in 2008 when ducati wolverhampton either sold it or serviced it , it had 9336, you dont have to be a mathematition to work out wtfk happened to the miles when i bought it this year with just under 8,000 miles

i have put 2000 miles on since may so now reads 10,000, dont get me wrong i love the bike compared to any jap one ive had, but now think i havnt got the genuine low miler i thought i had,:rant

i have rang ducati wolverhampton to see if they would have checked the valve clearances at 9,336 miles which by the book they should have, and wont find out till tomorrow whilst they check there records.
things get even thicker when you look at the first owners last service which was in june 2006 with 8915 on the clock this service was carried out by aprilia lincoln

you will problebly be as confused as i am after looking at all these figure's,:dunno
question now is what's real mileage is on my engine,
bike runs great looks great no hang ups, would it be worth my while having the valve clearances checked and sorted now , and then who will do it for me, not many ape dealers if any round here, im a little mechanically minded but when ya read some of the problematic threads on here ,i would'nt dare touch it

anyway if ya buying a mille check the history matches we all know the score with the clocks knocking the miles of when ya disconect the battery

what to do lads what to do:confused

If it were me mate I would go back to your dealer who you purchased it off and get them to sort it out.
They sold you a bike with incorrect mileage on and the mileage would have affected the price and your decision to buy.
My angle would be to keep the bike as you love it so much and either get a part refund from your dealer for their mistake or get them to carry out a complete major service foc.
They should check the documents when they sell a bike so have sold one with incorrect information, can't really see how they can argue but if they do tell them you will take it further - to the D.O.T.

was considering that today, and realized they didnt advertise the ''history'' as a selling factor just , the ''only 2 owners 8000 miles'' and the history just came with it ,but then they have sold it to me with contradictory mileage , do ya think i stand a good chance of some sort of compensation, even the service would do( thats if they really do it) hopefully your right , one can only try cheers for the reply

The bikes advertised mileage must be accurate and must have been verified to have been accurate at the time of sale.

If they dispute your claim for a part refund on your purchase price then Trading Standards will love to hear your story.

As said before, this discrepancy would most certainly have influenced your decision to buy or not to buy.

i hope you's are right

heres the numbers in better order

1st service 1/6/02 miles 678
2nd 12/9/02 4671
3rd 2/10/03 7619
4th 25/6/06 8918
5th 3/7/08 9322

i purchased may 2009 8000 miles:eek:it had more miles on 3 year ago, ffs lets hope they havnt got a loop hole:rant and then look at 03 to o6 just over a 1000 miles i feel worse than ever now

I purchased a car once that had 58,000 on the clock and advertised in the local papaer as a 60,000 miler. I checked the old mot's when I got home to find it was an old taxi and had done 358,000. I got loads of money back so can't see why you won't.
They have advertised it incorrectly so they are at fault. Ask them nicely first then if they won''t play ball get angry - be careful though they could agree to the service and not do it. Probably best to get money and take it somewhere else.

Trust me I'm in the motor trade and do legal stuff (kind of) too!

Has any of the documents you have got any mention of the dash being changed?

Did they advise you at the point of purchase that the mileage had been corrected?

If no then take them to the cleaners.

i think your right , i think they are getting away lightly with a service ( and like weve said , ''if they do it'') i might go for the '' i dont want it syndrome'' '' ya can have it back'' am going to get away a bit early from work tomorrow and take it in with tha paperwork,

cheers

Looking at the figures the bikes has averaged about 1000 miles a year. That means that the bike could have done 10,300 in reality (all conjecture but worth pointing out). That means 2300 miles more than you thought.
It did less miles in the last year so might be better news but needs to be averaged for fairness.

no none at all, sold to me as a 2 owner 8000 mile bike without any changes, thats why i bought it, and im sure in the motortrade you have to make it knowledgeable when the mileage cant be verified,

they must not have checked the history , and maybe hoped i would'nt and i problebly would'nt have unless i had read about the valve clearances
not sure what sort of deal i should be going for here, money wise, considering i think its a cracking bike
cheers

but seems queer that between 2006 with (8918) and 2008 (9322) just 400 miles

Ask yourself a few questions first before you act:

Do you like the bike?

Do you want rid of the bike?

Do you think the seller is dumb enough to have missed the mileage error? (You can answer this one LOL)

Did the mileage discrepancy actually cause you to over pay for the bike? (If yes then this is your target for compensation)

What do you actually want out of this? (Most likely the above)

One tip I would give you is always be reasonable and never ever lose your temper with them, once you get angry they will clam up and you will get nothing.

Good luck

I bet there's at least 50 RSV's on this forum that do around that mileage every two years too. :roll

We call them polishers!! :nana

To be honest im not the type to go belting in shouting the odds, the bike stands me 3,500 yes i know problebly a little over the odds from a dealer, and i do want to keep the bike, as previously mentioned , trying to get a ball park figure on the mileage is hard, so lets just say for instance, you have the same bike with 15,000 miles on and the other with 8,000 what difference in cost are we looking at,

i just thought i had a little belta of a bike , which really is in mint condition(problebly due to having its original fairings put back on after being on the track for 2 yrs which would explain the low mileage from 2006 to 2008  i hope not lol)

id be happy just having the valves checked and sorted if needed and ill just chuck the service history away

when i bought mine it had done 40 miles in two years, as for M & S stay clear in the future they are crap, aftersales is abysmal and as i have ranted before they fixed an electrical fault on my Gixxer with no-nails!!

M&S = thieving gits!! Can't say I've ever been convinced by them. They think they're the only dealer in the North and that you couldn't possibly go elsewhere in the country. Seems strange how the 8 bikes I've had have never been bought in the North East as I've always got a better deal elsewhere and with free delivery.

i see your up my neck of the woods, who does your major servicing on your mille , can you recommend anyone, i do the ordinary stuff brakes oil ect... myself but its just these valve clearance jobby's ,

40 miles in 2 years, plenty of polishing going on there then, and yes good and bad reveiws with m&s

Alan (amb67) is the man!! if he says black is white on this subject , id believe him!!

I also think hes right , dont get rid of the bike as you clearly love the bike but look for some money back as compensation, or ask them if theyd pay the bill for someone to check the clearences?? I'd do them for ya mate no worries and bill em for ya....i know a few managers from thsat place.....hmmmmmm

i'd be happy to help if you need it??

Missed out on griff's last trip up north due to work so will see when he's next around, when i bought it (private) it had just had major service by you know who!, so i changed all filters/fluids and plugs to make sure.so hopefully will be ok till next year! As for round here i just dont know my mate owns a local bike shop but dunno if its his cup of tea. I usually go by the notion if its running ok leave it alone!!
