Security chains

Unfortunately losing use of the garage soon so the bike is going to be kept outside. I intend to keep it on a small hard standing outside the house and chain it to a ground anchor. Question is, decent chains are bulky things. Is there anywhere on the RSV where a decent sized chain will fit though the frame?

Got me mate. I'd be inclined to use a chain and a couple of disc locks. Make it as hard as possible to steal. I've never even looked at getting a chain through the frame.

Tell you what i have got though. Its a cable lock which will loop through the front and back wheels and locks to itself, through a ground anchor if desired. On the end of the lock is a 12o decibel siren. If the cable is cut or removed (ie wheels taken out) then the siren goes off. Bloody loud too.

I may well be mistaken here, but maybe you could feed it through the gap in the front of the swingarm near the rear downpipe? Many people simply pass it through the forks or right near the rear wheel but the thievin scum simply remove the relevant wheel and jobs a good un. If you could fit it there i cant see em taking the rear swinger off! Also you've prob heard it a 100 times before, but do park the bike as close to the post etc as poss and chain it as tightly as poss so the chain cant be lowered to the floor (then hit with a sledge using the floor as an anvil to bust it) .I would also buy a decent alarmed lock to use in conjunction with the chain. See ride magazines product tests, anything with a recommended or best buy triangle is always fairly good.

almax. Good luck. Spend as much as you can afford to or make sure you have good insurance. Sorry to be gloom and doom but i had a bike stolen once and it's not nice.

Cheers, have heard that Almax are the best out there but the links need to be at least 16mm thick to resist bolt croppers and I can't see anywhere obvious on the bike where a chain that size would pass through. I wouldn't feel safe locking it by a wheel alone.

tbh for the noise and hassle of taking a rear wheel off they're as likely to come along with something to cut the chain or anchor, they're a bit more sophisticated than bolt croppers nowadays. Rear wheel or swinger is pretty much your only option, even then you may end up with scratches, even if you clean the chain and sleeve it.
Again, sorry to be so doom and gloom and you may be lucky but i now don't like leaving my bike anywhere i can't see it now. It's either at work with a security guard, cctv and a barrier with people who know me going past constantly or it's at home behind a reinforced garage door and ground anchor, and a car parked in front of it! The only other time it comes out is for pleasure and then it's always in view.
If i lost my garage my paranoia is now so bad i'd have to give up bikes or get a crap old thing that no one would want to nick

bloody bike thieves! I even laminated some of my downstairs windows so they can't be broken in to get to the keys! I'm scaring myself here! I probably won't sleep tonight now. I think i need to get some help!

Alamax as they say rule. Why not a get a locking nut for the rear spindle and put it through the rear wheel. I know you can get them I just can't remember were.:dunno

As said, when you do secure it to a stationary object make sure the chain is off the ground as high as possible.
