Hey all.

I had to get dogbone bearings etc ordered up today, and had a look at the parts fiche for getting replacement shock bushes.
Although it shows them in the exploded diagram, there's no part number assigned to them. Does that mean I cant get them?

Anyone on here had these wear out before, and ordered new ones?

The lower one is just about useable, but the top one is proper ******. It has the squidgey consistency of a marshmallow. :no
The shock on my T could easily be wrenched from side to side with your hand, so it will fail the MOT next month.

Cant afford a shiney new Nitron, mores the pity. :drool

Yep,the bushes are part of the shock,.....you cant buy them separately.

Try a bearing dealer from the web.

I had a similar problem on my standard Gixer shock.

As long as you know the dimensions you can normally source a replacement.

I wouldn't know where to begin looking. Any ideas/links?
All my web searching has come up with nothing so far.

Alternative is if someone here has upgraded from a Sachs unit, and wouldn't mind donating the bushes my way.
I'm supposed to be meeting up with a few guys next weekend for a trip, arranged time off n everything booked, but with no bike I'm fooked!

If you've got the shock removed form the bike find a local bearing factor or motor factor to you and take it to them & see if they can source one.

Use Yell.com or similar ;)

Somebody that sells suspension bushes for cars may help you, maybe ripspeed or some other specialist.
I have just replaced the ones on the Alfa with neopreen replacements, so there are people out there that do bushes.

I dont think a bearing shop could help. After all they are bushes, not bearings. In the old days they were made of rubber with a steel tube through the middle.Probably a bit more space age now!I think Ash may have offered the best answer. You may need some sorta press to remove/refit the bushes.

Couple on ebay - maybe a cheap fix ?

Dont think its worth spending alot on the same as what you have..... though s/h ohlins do seem to have gone up in price.

You might fall lucky and find someone with a knackered one that will pass on the bushes, but if you cant buy them seperately then most would want to keep them so they have a complete shock to put back on their bikes if they ever want to sell... (thats my plan)

Ash, how does the neoprene work mucker?

Jist curious, is that stuff not soft and squidgy.

I'm thinking aboot ma old steamer that I used fir windsurfing, it wiz made from neoprene.

Mr A, I did a kit car a few years back & replaced all the rubber bushes with neoprene.

It takes all the vagueness away, but is much harsher on the arms / pivots / mounts etc.

Not sure with a bike suspensions system though - if one fails on a car - not much bother.

If one fails on a bike - could be more serious.

"Nylatron has been used on competition cars for many years, it is hard and unforgiving, whereas the modern polyurethane bush has a softer edge and is more easily installed. Road cars can benefit greatly from polyurethane bushes"

Nylatron = track
Polyurethane for the road

If you look up "powerflex" they may do something suitable for ya... or these guys :

Moss Europe, Ltd - Classic Parts for Classic, MX-5, MGF, Mini, MGB

may be able to point you in the right direction if they dont have em (seems quite reasonable if they have the rite sizes for ya)

Wow! Loads of info there guys, thanks.
I did wonder about powerflex bushes. The originals seem similar.

However, after removing it and seeing just how bad its got, I might just give in and go for a new unit.

So is it Nitron, Wilbers or Maxton if you were buying? Starting at about £400.

Seems that the guys above beat me to it Aldo :thumbup

what shock depends on what style of riding you will be doing mate :yes
as I only ride on roads and never venture on track I opted for the nitron and TBH its more than I will ever need and makes the rear feel well planted :thumbup
Aprilia Tuono 1000 R (06-09) - NTR Sport Shock 1-Way
if you go for a nitron drop Tash a pm and I am sure he will sort out a good price for you :thumbup
