RSVR Vs Ducati 749

I'm surprised that while the RSVR is highest for insurance, the mille is among the lowest.
Isn't the RSVR a mille in a prettier set of clothes?

yes it is but the parts are worth alot more and is more likely to be stolen for the parts than a standard rsv the forks shocks and wheels will fetch more than 2 thirds of the bikes value alone on a 2000 rsvr thats why you see a fair few owners breaking there's

Depends mate the factory is the old r model and the rsvr is the old mille,it depends on what age of bike you put in as the newer shape factory was the dearest one while the rsvr was the cheapest.....

I know someone who got rid of their 749 because of the cost of servicing, parts and general up keep.
I may lose my no claims bonus :rant and got a quote of £777 TPFT from go compare for an 08 RC8 with zero no claims, im 29.
If im VERY lucky and keep my no claims it would be about £350
I dont think i want to get rid of my Mille though
:doug I get to keep my NCB. Renewal came today 01 Mille £120 TPFT :doug
MMMMMmmmmmm.... £350 TPFT to insure an RC8 :dowhat

M8 if this squid guy has any sort of clue, if he really is set on an RSV which is a lot more power than he has ridden before (check his older posts) the only real route for him is a gen1 standard mille .........that will give him a reasonable premium with some comfort knowing it ain't cost a fortune and get to know what a 1000cc sports bike is all about ........why would you want to get a gen 2 RSVR then pay an extortionate premium on a bike you have totally never ridden before and is 750cc's bigger, more power, more torque, more everything really with the real possibility of binning it through inexperience..................sounds expensive to me!!!! WHY RUN BEFORE YOU CAN WALK??

:confused Just my opimion :dunno

I'm 28 with 5 years NCB and my RSV Mille (2000) is £180 to insure fully comp with Carole Nash who include breakdown cover + European Cover. Got it on the 'future classic' policy as more than 10 years old.

That's a pretty good deal. Did you declare any modifications to them. I think when I tried Carole Nash for my Mille they were concerned about level/type of modification and declined to quote.

Rob :)

Yeah, declared everything but have since changed the standard screen for a double bubble - should probably tell them but not sure if Carole Nash are one of these '£25 admin fee' for changing a very minor thing.

I also managed to get £30 off the quote just because it was the last day of the month and the guy was desperate to convert the quote into a policy before the end of the month for his targets - something to bare in mind if you're ever shopping around.

I will be renewing in time for 1st April so may give it a try. What's the excess like?

Just had a look at my policy docs. Excess is £125 and premium was actually £173! Also looks like I didn't actually get £30 off the premium but £30 off the 'admin fees' for paying in 4 installments instead of all at once. Still though, shows they're willing to do things for your business.

Policy is also called 'modern classic' as opposed to my earlier comment of future classic - you never know though.... :)

Another wee tip is to get them chasing you for their business, for example, doing a quote online and then just leaving it. They will eventually phone you to see what you thought of the quote and you're in a better position to 'deal' when they're phoning you!

Good luck!

Cheers mate. A lot of insurers want huge excesses now, £500 and the like. I had the 'modern classic' from Carole Nash on my previous bike but this one is only 9 years old. As I said before, last year, when I insured the Mille for the first time a lot of the insurers were not interested due to the number and type of mods. One said they would insure if I removed the Ohlins rear shock but were happy with everything else!? I can't remember which ones said what now. I know I can go back to eBike if I'm stuck but if there are better prices to be had then it's worth a look!

My mate has 749s and loves it, he`s the quickest and most confident i`v ever seen him and before that he had an 03 R1 and before that an 04 R6. He also test rode a 848 a little while ago but didnt think it was worth trading in. I dont know as I didnt ride it, I rode an 1198 with plenty of knee downs and wheelies and was most impressed, dont know how similar it feels to the 848? The brakes were EPIC! Although I would saw it seemed alot less raw the my old 02 Haga does, which is odd...

Doubt any of that helps, but hey hoe :D

The 1198 is much more civilised than the 1098. They reigned in the way it makes the power compared to the 1098 which kicks in real hard.

The 848 rides much the same, just feels a bit lighter and obviously not so much oomph. It's quite radically different to the feel of a 749/999 though in my opinion. They feel lower and longer in comparison. Lot to be said for the power of something like a 749 though as you can ride the nuts off the thing without fear of it biting you. Everyone goes in search of a few more hp when they could probably go faster with less on anything real twisty.

I followed a 125 in spain on a real twisty road and he could go as fast as me because i couldn't use the power. The thing could do 70 and carried fantastic corner speed.

I can believe that. I dont think anything could keep with me back in the day on the RS125 if you had the bottle and the stuff was twisty enough below a ton.

Yeah the 1198 was very manageable indeed :)

Im 25 with 4 years no claims on a 2002 rsv and i got insured through thebikeinsurer £212 fully comp. Used them a couple of years ago for my (now swear word) GSXR 1000 K5 and they were by far the cheapest :happy
