The general idea is that you guys talk me out of wanting one. Or if you can't, at least talk me into wanting one :p.

I've been shopping around for insurance quotes and whatnot, and have been approaching something of a dangerously open mind when it comes to deciding what bike to get. I'm stick very struck on the idea of the RSVR but it ain't half spensive for a 27 year old to insure .

I was wondering if getting a 749 might save some pennies while still having a wonderful RaWry Italian twin.

Now, let's see, on the downside, they are, hmm, Expensive to maintain? Are they less reliable than the RSV? And what about their lack of a pneumatic pseudo slipper clutch thingie?

Do tell, I can't decide :p.

Have you tried a normal Millie for insurance, I've got one and am same age as you bud, they are defiantly cheaper than r model n just about as good bike, just lacking bit of bling, get a quote, recon u will b surprised, can't say I'm a big fan of 749 and 999 looks, bit like owning the worst looking Ducati but I guess it's all about personal preference :thumbup

I'm 25 insuring a aprillia RSV R 2007 lol costing umhhhh... Fully comp at £2200 lost my ncd.. TPFT £771 lol.... Am I mad? Love for the rsv :)

alright bud ive got a 2001 rsv and im only 28 without any no clams bonus and i paid £500 for TPF&F from adrian flux insurance
hope it helps
brett

RSV v 749, chalk & cheese. The 749 is an absolutely sublime tool, but you need to be "focussed" to get the best of it. Tauter, more like an IL4 with power delivery & quite unforgiving if you're not precise with it. RSV's are eminently far more practical for the road & day to day riding & something that you can grow with rather than adapt into.

Oh, and Ducati's are quite fragile :eatcorn

Cool, thanks blokes.

@ Huggydave, the difference in insurance between the (new) RSVR and the (new) RSV(R) factory is about 50 quid for me.

I like the newer model RSVs because it's all spiky and angular and whathaveyou, whereas the mille is all curves and flowing lines. I wouldn't say no to a nice Mille of course, but I'd prefer an RSVR. :)

Who are you insuring your RSVR with, MKRSVR? I went to ebike and they wanted about 800 tpo for a 2004 RSVR. I'm 27 with (expired - I never made a claim) no NCD.
Brett I'll have a look at Adrian Flux. Ta.

I know someone who got rid of their 749 because of the cost of servicing, parts and general up keep.
I may lose my no claims bonus :rant and got a quote of £777 TPFT from go compare for an 08 RC8 with zero no claims, im 29.
If im VERY lucky and keep my no claims it would be about £350
I dont think i want to get rid of my Mille though

Quite fragile by whos standards? By the standards of an RS250 owner? ;)

enough.just be done with it an buy a rsv of some description, enjoy

Have ridden both & must say the 999 was the better of the 2 for its smooth power delivery & planted frontend ... the 749 was a sweet bike that you did have to rev alot more but still wasn't something that you would compare an equal to a RSV Both bikes have their strong & weak points

Forget ducati's (pish) new shape rsvr to be honest not alot of performance difference between factory and r not that us mere mortals will find,i took mines on track and was excellent,as for your insurance m8 a rsvr is cheaper than any other 1000cc bike use supermarket insurance ont web search about i was fully comp for £400 and only had my licence 2 years wi 1 years no claim ......
