Hi guys,

My RSV has always been a bugger to start. Sometimes it starts somtimes I'd doesn't. I'm planning on doing the starting mods - starter sol & batt upgrade. I've been reading a few posts about the mods. Just wondered if anyone can offer any advice. I'm going to order the uprated batt & solenoid in the next few weeks. Anything else I should be doing at the same time & any help would be appreciated ?? Thanks in advance

What year is it??
For Starters??
Plugs When were they last replaced?
If its gen1 even when its real cold I often don't pull the fast idle leverall the way on just half way and mine will start fine.
Extra earth strap??
Whats you battery reading with a multimeter across ther terminals without the bike running.
Do you have an alarm?
Do you keep it on a battery conditioner?

It's on an 04 plate but it's the old shape with the single exhaust.

I always put the fast idle on 3/4 - full with no throttle. I keep the batt hooked up to an optimiser but still it struggles to start and many times won't at all. I'm not sure on the readings without checking !! Will have a look this w/e !!

Ok bud I guess your bikes headlight comes on when you turn on the ignition??? If it does its a battery killer ...I wired mine to separate switch so I can turn mine off for starting... for a tester if you got a set of jump leads or a friend who has some attatch them to your car & rsv with car running then try and start the bike if all goes well I reckon your bike will fire straight up as from what ur describing I think ur battery is not up to the job when it dips anywhere below a descent voltage aswell as cranking the starter it also supplies a strong spark to the plugs and if you ain't got that then u get what you have been describing, a weak battery will also knacker your solenoid ...............Also make sure all ur batt/earth connections are tight as..............
