Hey guys,

Really need some help on this one!

I've recently had to strip down the poor girl and ii'm currently in the process of fitting her all back together.

I've just re-done all my valve clearances and now i'm onto the issue of timing.

One problem is, i don't have the timing tools for the 2001 mille and neither does the dealer. and i've only got till friday to get this done.

Does anyone know of any other alternative tool or method to get my timing done!?

I'm really in need of help

Hope to hear from someone soon!

Cheers,

Screwloose

have you got a haynes ?

all i can think is you need the crank holding tool yes?

that is something you can make with a bolt etc but you need a manual to see what's what

Yea that's the one. Haven't got a haynes, but i got a workshop manual and engine service manual?

Not really sure how to fashion the tool? i'm not sure if you gotta have some sort of plate to hold the cam shafts still as well :S

You fit the crank holding bolt then allign the marks on the cam sprockets then fit the chain so its slack on the tensioner side, then install the tensioners. If you get stuck I can post up the pages from the Haynes manual :thumbup

crank holding bolt? Is this the specialist aprilia tool? or could i fashion on of these with a bolt head and something to grip it with? i know the method it's just this specialist tool thing that's confusing me. The haynes pages could help a bit, cheers mate!

All you need is a bolt with the end ground down to locate in the crank, it takes 5 minutes to make, you only do it up finger tight once your sure it's located. I can post up the page from the haynes manual later tonight when I get home unless someone beats me too it. Cant remember the size its an M6 or M8 but you remove one of the side casing bolts & screw your holding bolt in.

That's fantastic, that'd be great! need to get the poor girl back on the road this week! been off it for 3 months.

Cheers for your help mate.

pretty sure its a M8 and you simply round the end a little so it goes in the hole in the crank .

haynes says use a cylinder head bolt etc as there strong but a good long bolt that's high tensile will do

as for length you will know that when you insert a screw driver etc to gauge it .
