2004 RSV Factory, when out riding today on several occasions when going down through the gears approaching junctions I had the engine cut out on me, what could be my issue?

hi there
it did it to me last year few times till it didn't want to start again it turn out it was the alternator
did change it with aftermarket part but after 3 months it it went again and caught fire change it again with original part and its good now but cost me 900 pounds
another thing you could try is to get a fuel injection cleaner cost 20 pounds and will clean the fuel system
good luck with it

asking on behalf of my friend.. his bike keep cutting out the engine.. once he pulled clutch in.. but after he cranked it back.. idle was fine.. get moving.. pulled in clutch at the junction/traffic light/to stop.. engine cut out.. why this happens? 1 way valve broken? stepper motor? his bike is rsvr 2004

Hi Kamm Matt,
For my bike it turned out to be a combination if 2 things. Firstly the 2004 RSV factory came from Aprillia with a poor fuel map, map 1 and got recalled to have the map changed to fuel map 2, this can be done by performance Aprillia from Tamworth or your nearest Aprillia dealer. Secondly with my bike the sprag clutch was on the way out, in that it was beginning to break up, this was causing small metallic debris to collect on the crank sensor which is a magnetic sensor, which in turn threw the ecu fuelling out due to incorrect readings from the crank sensor. Hope this helps mate.

So glad ive eventually found a thread with this exact problem. The guy at the local dealership thinks im crazy as it never does it when he takes it out for a test. Its definitely a dangerous problem. Ive dropped a gear goin round a corner couple times an not noticed its cut out until i release the clutch and the bikes locked up. It also happens on a regular basis drivin slowly through the town

Problemo solved.. Its just the anti return valve on the right side below the bar handle..
This valve is to do with the clutch ye?
Also last time this happened i free wheeled into the side of the road, tried to start it and discovered sprag clutch had gone.
