Please help! i have had my 06 rsv factory for two months it has done 5600 miles.
The problem is it seems to use alot of oil, i have done about 600 miles since i have had it and it has used about half litre. Is this normal for the rsv of this age.
Also how do you check the oil.Do you get it hot then check it or do it cold.

PS.IT DOES GET A GOOD SPANKING ROUND THE TT COURSE:thumbup:thumbup:thumbup

RSV and RSVR / Factory have a dry sump lubrication system. Checking the oil needs to be done in a specific way.

Ride the bike for at least 20 minutes until warm, then stop somewhere flat and safe and switch off the engine. Carefully hold the bike upright and immediately check the oil level in the sight tube seen through the left hand fairing panel. It should read no more than 2/3 up the sight tube. Any more and oil will be drawn into the airbox. If it's low top up as necessary. This is the only way to correctly check the oil level. I usually check mine after a good ride out when i get home, again the procedure is exactly the same.

RSVR's are known to use a little oil when they are new. My old RSV Mille used about 1/2 litre every 800 miles until it reached about 6000 miles, then it used virtually none. It takes a while to bed these engines in especially if using fully synthetic oil
